A rifamycin antibiotic for topical use in otorhinolaryngology.
The mechanism of action of rifamycin is associated with the formation of a stable complex with DNA-dependent RNA polymerase, which prevents the growth of bacteria.
It is active against majority of Gram-positive and Gram-negative bacteria which cause development of infectious-inflammatory diseases of the outer and middle ear.

100 ml of ear drops contain:
The active ingredient:
Rifamycin sodium 2.6 g, corresponding to 2000000 IU;
Associates:
Macrogol 400 – 25 g,
Ascorbic acid – 500 mg,
Dinatrium edetate – 12 mg,
Potassium disulfite – 150 mg,
Lithium hydroxide – 135 mg,
Purified water – up to 100 ml.
How to take, the dosage
Otofa is used topically by putting drops into the external auditory canal; before use, the bottle should be warmed by holding it in your hand.
Five drops (3 drops for children) three times a day or twice a day are put into the external auditory canal for a few minutes.
The course is 1-3 days (no more).
Special Instructions
Rifampicin-resistant strains may occur. Otofa contains sulfites.
Contraindications
Hypersensitivity to rifamycin.
Side effects
Pink staining of the eardrum (visible on otoscopy).
Pregnancy use
There have been no adequate and strictly controlled clinical studies of the safety of Otofa during pregnancy and lactation (breastfeeding).
