Ocumetil is a combination drug containing zinc sulfate, diphenhydramine and naphazoline. These substances in Okumetil have antiseptic, anti-allergic and anti-inflammatory effects.
Zinc sulfate has astringent, drying, anti-inflammatory and antiseptic effects when used topically.
Naphazoline is a sympathomimetic. It has a fast, pronounced and prolonged vasoconstrictor effect. When used topically it reduces swelling and hyperemia of the mucous membranes.
Diphenhydramine is a blocker of H1-histamine receptors. When applied topically, it reduces capillary permeability and prevents tissue edema.
Pharmacokinetics
It is subject to systemic absorption when applied topically. There is no information about the extent of penetration into various tissues of the eye after topical application.

How to take, the dosage
Ocumetil should be instilled into the conjunctival sac of the affected eye (eye) 2-3 times a day.
If no reduction of symptoms is seen within 72 hours of using the drug, a physician should be consulted.
Interaction
Because the effects of diphenhydramine and central nervous system stimulating drugs may be mutually reduced, it is not recommended to use the drug Okumetil in patients using these drugs.
Ocumetil should not be used concomitantly with MAO inhibitors and for 10 days after stopping their administration.
The combined use of beta-adrenoblockers, MAOI inhibitors and adrenomimetics increases the effect of the latter.
Naphazoline slows down absorption of local anesthetic agents; therefore it is not recommended to combine the drug Okumetil with local anesthetic agents used in ophthalmology.
Zinc sulfate is not pharmaceutically compatible with silver salts, lead, quinine, ichthyol, citral, protargol, alkaline reagents.
Special Instructions
Keep the bottle tightly closed and avoid contact of the pipette tip with any surface to avoid contamination of the solution.
Impact on driving and operating machinery
Within 10-15 minutes after instillation, visual acuity may decrease; therefore, caution should be exercised when driving and operating machinery.
Contraindications
Perform with caution in patients taking MAO inhibitors or other BP-enhancing medications.
Side effects
A slight burning sensation, blurred vision, allergic reactions may occur after injection. In aphakia, maculopathy and central scotoma may develop. In this case, withdrawal of the drug leads to reversal of symptoms.
After topical use of naphazolin, a component of Ocumetil, reactive hyperemia and edema of the mucous membrane of the eyes, dilation of the pupil, increased IOP (intraocular pressure) may occur. With prolonged use, the phenomenon of tissue irritation occurs most frequently.
As naphazolin has a general resorptive effect when applied topically, it may cause tachycardia, increased blood pressure, nausea, headache.
When diphenhydramine is used topically there may be local and systemic side effects: accommodation paresis, photosensitivity, dryness and numbness of the eye mucosa, drowsiness, weakness, decreased psychomotor reactions and movement coordination, dizziness.
In prolonged use of zinc salts dryness of the mucous membrane of the eyes may occur.
Pregnancy use
Ocumetil is contraindicated in pregnant women, during lactation, and in children under 2 years of age
