Pharmacological action
Nux vomica is made from the dried seeds of the vomiting nut, a tree with non-fading foliage native to Southeast Asia.
The chemical composition:
– fatty acids;
– polysaccharides;
– iridoids, among them loganoside;
– alkaloids (3%), mainly strychnine (45% of alkaloids) and brucine – the main active substances; traces of minor alkaloids – colubrin, vomicin, novacin are also present.
Strychnine and brucin are specific antagonists of glycine, whose postsynaptic action they block.
Indications
Key symptoms for prescribing the drug
hypersensitivity to light, noise, smells, the slightest touch;
hypersensitivity to cold (feeling cold, chills in cool air);
cramps in the calf muscles and toes;
colic with attacks of nausea that do not lead to vomiting;
tendency to spastic processes;
constipation;
bleeding hemorrhoids;

Behavioral disorders
irritability, short temper, aggressiveness, behavior associated with various types of addiction;
