Pharmacological properties:

Dexpanthenol is a derivative of pantothenic acid. In the body is metabolized into pantothenic acid, which is part of coenzyme A and is involved in acetylation processes, carbohydrate and fat metabolism, the synthesis of acetylcholine, glucocorticosteroids, porphyrins, stimulates skin regeneration, normalizes cellular metabolism, accelerates mitosis and increases the strength of collagen fibers. It has a regenerating, metabolic and mild anti-inflammatory effect. An increased need for pantothenic acid is observed in skin or tissue damage, and its deficiency can be compensated by topical application of Novatenol®. Its optimal molecular weight, hydrophilicity and low polarity allow its penetration into all skin layers.

Pharmacokinetics: When applied topically it is quickly absorbed and converted into pantothenic acid, binds to plasma proteins (mainly to beta globulin and albumin).

Composition

1 g of the ointment contains:

active ingredient: dexpanthenol 50 mg;

complementary substances: Preservative [phenoxyethanol, methyl parahydroxybenzoate, ethyl parahydroxybenzoate], lanolin, white beeswax, soft white paraffin, dimethicone, emulsifier [cetostearyl alcohol, sodium lauryl sulfate, sodium cetostearyl sulfate], propylene glycol, butylhydroxyanisole, butylhydroxytoluene, decamethylcyclopentasiloxane, magnesium sulfate heptahydrate, base [mountain wax, hydrogenated castor oil, glyceryl monostearate, butyric acid, soft white paraffin], purified water.

How to take, the dosage

Externally.

The ointment is applied to the affected area of the skin once or several times a day as indicated. Apply a thin layer on the affected area of the skin, rubbing lightly. For breastfeeding mothers, apply the ointment to the infected nipple surface after breastfeeding. The ointment is also used in children, including newborns. For infants the drug is used after a change of underwear or water treatment.

Precautionary measures:

The treatment of trophic ulcers and poorly healing skin grafts should be under the supervision of the attending physician. Do not apply to soaking wounds.
