Nitroglycerin is an organic nitrogen-containing compound with a predominantly venodilator effect.
Indications
Angina pectoris.
Active ingredient
Composition
1 tablet contains 0.5 mg nitroglycerin.
How to take, the dosage
Sublingually: tablets – 0.15-0.5 mg per dose, repeated in 5 minutes if necessary.
In case of acute left ventricular failure, 4 or more doses over a short period may be used.
Interaction
The hypotensive effect of the drug may be excessive with uncontrolled simultaneous administration of other antihypertensive agents, antidepressants, ethanol, diuretics, beta-adrenoblockers, MAO inhibitors.
Therapeutic effectiveness of the drug may decrease.
Nitrocor with procainamide should be used with caution because the hypotensive effect may increase and collapse may occur.
The simultaneous use of Nitrocor with heparin may decrease the anticoagulant effect of the latter.
Special Instructions
Nitrocor increases excretion of catecholamines and vanillylmindalic acid with urine.
The use of alcoholic beverages during the use of the drug is strictly prohibited.
Influence on driving and work requiring increased attention
At the beginning of treatment it is necessary to refrain from driving vehicles and engaging in potentially dangerous activities requiring increased concentration and rapid psychomotor reactions. Thereafter, the degree of restriction is determined individually for each patient.
Contraindications
Glaucoma, craniocerebral hypertension, impaired cerebral circulation, severe cerebroatherosclerosis.
Side effects
CNS disorders: blurred vision, headache (especially at the beginning of treatment, decreases with long-term therapy), dizziness and weakness, motor anxiety.
Cardiovascular system disorders: arterial hypotension, including orthostatic (when moving upright from lying or sitting position), reflex tachycardia, facial hyperemia.
In rare cases with a sharp drop in BP an increase of symptoms of angina pectoris may be observed (paradoxical “nitrate” reactions).
Digestive system disorders: dry mouth, nausea, vomiting.
Dermatological reactions: dermatitis, skin rash.
Overdose
Symptoms: Cyanosis of the lips, nails or palms, severe dizziness or fainting, feeling of intense pressure in the head, shortness of breath, marked fatigue or weakness, weak and rapid heartbeat, fever, seizures.
Treatment:In case of symptoms of overdose, the patient should be immediately laid down, the legs should be elevated; symptomatic and supportive therapy should be administered.
Pregnancy use
Extraction of Nitroglycerin into breast milk has not been established.
The use of Nitrocor during pregnancy and during breastfeeding requires a careful risk-benefit comparison and should be performed under close medical supervision.
