A synthetic analogue of vasopressin. It has a pronounced antidiuretic effect. Compared with vasopressin, it has less effect on vascular smooth muscle and internal organs. In diabetes mellitus it increases reabsorption of water from the distal tubules of the kidneys while increasing the relative osmotic density of urine. This helps to reduce the frequency of urination and eliminate the increased need for fluids.

Indications

Diagnosis and treatment of diabetes insipidus; treatment of temporary polyuria and polydipsia after surgery in the pituitary gland (for intranasal use only); night urinary incontinence (both in the form of monotherapy and as part of complex therapy).

In diabetes insipidus, it enhances the reabsorption of water from the distal tubules of the kidneys, while simultaneously increasing the relative osmotic density of urine. This helps reduce the frequency of urination and eliminate the increased need for fluid.

Special instructions

With swelling of the nasal mucosa and severe rhinitis, the absorption of desmopressin may be impaired when administered intranasally. In such cases, sublingual application is recommended.

Composition

Lyophilisate tablets are white, round, with an engraving in the form of one drop on one side.

Contraindications

Congenital or psychogenic polydipsia, anuria, fluid retention of various etiologies, plasma hypoosmolality, heart failure and other conditions that require diuretic therapy, hypersensitivity to desmopressin.

Side Effects

From the central nervous system: headache, dizziness, disturbances of consciousness, coma.

Interaction

Indomethacin may increase the intensity (but not the duration) of action of desmopressin.
