Pharmacological properties

An essential amino acid, donor of mobile methyl groups for choline synthesis, phospholipids, realization of lipotropic effect. Participates in the synthesis of adrenaline, proteins, re-methylation reactions, deamination, decarboxylation, etc. It participates in the metabolism of sulfur-containing amino acids, adrenaline, creatinine, cyanocobalamin, ascorbic and folic acids, hormones and enzymes. It has a detoxifying effect. Has a metabolic, hepatoprotective effect. It is easily absorbed in the intestines and excreted in small amounts in the urine.

Indications

Hepatic diseases (hepatitis, hepatosis, cirrhosis) occurring with fatty infiltration of hepatocytes; prevention of toxic liver injury by arsenic, chloroform, benzene, alcohol; protein deficiency of various origins in the combined therapy.

How to take, the dosage

Orally, adults 0.5-1.5 g, children over 6 years old 0.25 g – 0.5 g 3-4 times a day 30-60 minutes before meals.

The course of treatment is 10-30 days or courses of 10 days with 10-day intervals.

Synopsis

Contraindications

Viral hepatitis, severe hepatic insufficiency, hepatic encephalopathy, hypersensitivity to the drug components. The drug is contraindicated in children under 6 years of age.

With caution

Renal insufficiency (danger of increasing hyperazotemia)

The use of Methionine is not recommended in cases of viral hepatitis.

Side effects

Possible allergic reactions, nausea, vomiting (due to unpleasant odor and taste).

Overdose

Symptoms: decreased blood pressure, tachycardia, disorientation.

The treatment is symptomatic.
