Methionine regulates nitrogen balance.

Methionine has a mobile methyl group and is involved in methylation processes, which ensure the formation of phospholipids, creatine, adrenaline, choline and other biologically important compounds that neutralize toxic products.

Methionine also has a lipotropic effect (removal of excess fat from the liver). Methionine modulates the effects of vitamins (folic and ascorbic acids, B12) and hormones.

It has metabolic and hepatoprotective effects. The use of methionine in a balanced ratio with other amino acids prevents its toxic effects.

Indications

Liver diseases (cirrhosis, alcoholic hepatopathy, toxic hepatitis); dystrophy, protein deficiency.

How to take, the dosage

Methionine is taken orally 30-60 minutes before a meal: adults -3-4 times a day for 0.5-1.5 g, children 7 years and older – 0.5 g, 5-6 years – 0.3 g, 3-4 years – 0.25 g, 1-2 years – 0.2 g, under 1 year – 0.1 g.

The course of therapy is 10 days with 10-day intervals or 10-30 days.

Interaction

Methionine reduces the effects of levodopa when used with it.

Contraindications

Viral hepatitis, hypersensitivity.

Side effects

Nausea, vomiting.
