Pharmacokinetics:
Absorption of the active substances and their systemic effects on the body have not been found when applying Mardil Selenium to the affected areas of the skin.
Pharmacodynamics:
Mardyl Selenium is a solution of selenic acid (0.45% in terms of selenium) in 70% 2.2-dichloropropionic acid. When applied externally to the affected areas of the skin, the drug is able to interrupt the growth and activity of pathologically changed cells, including benign skin neoplasms and malignant non-metastatic skin tumors through angioagulation, dehydration and devitalization.
The action of the drug on the affected area of the skin provides immediate lifetime fixation with subsequent mummification of the pathologically changed tissue with which the drug comes into contact. The immediate effect of the drug is expressed in the appearance of a characteristic whitish-gray or grayish color.
Devitalized tissue after exposure to the drug dehydrates and, as it mummifies, takes on a dark brown coloration. The resulting mummified scab peels off after complete re-epithelialization, after 2-4 weeks Healing is uneventful, especially in the absence of secondary infection, leaving no significant scars and scars, deformities of adjacent tissues or organ dysfunction.

How to take, the dosage
Externally:
Treatment of basal cell cancer. The treatment is performed on an outpatient basis, under the supervision of a physician. The procedure does not require anesthesia. The preparation is applied with a thin wooden spatula or with the accompanying glass capillary to the surface of the mass, previously degreased with 70% ethanol. The treatment is carried out by several applications at 1-2 min intervals, capturing 1-2 mm of visibly healthy skin, until the appearance of dense whitish-gray staining. The change of tissue coloration occurs within 2-3 minutes after application of the preparation.
At the same time the consistency of the neoplasm changes to a denser one. The dose of the drug depends on the stage, clinical form and density of the tumor and can be up to 0.2 ml. Maximum daily dose is 0.2 ml. The standard course of therapy for stage 1 basal cell cancer includes 3 treatments of the tumor and is given on days 1, 2 or 3 and 8 or 9 Additional, 4 applications of Mardyl Selenium are allowed after the mummified scab has been detached at the discretion of the physician.
A transient band of hyperemia and edema is observed around the neoplasm after application of Mardyl Selenium, which subsides 24-48 hours after completion of the procedure. No additional therapeutic measures are required after application. The day after application the pathological focus mummifies, turns a dark brown color and sharply decreases in size. Mummified scab detaches only after complete epithelialization spontaneously in 2-4 weeks. Healing proceeds without complications, especially in the absence of secondary infection, leaving no significant scars, scars and deformations of adjoining tissues or dysfunctions of organs.
Treatment of benign skin neoplasms, vascular benign skin neoplasms, benign skin neoplasms of viral origin. Treatment is performed as an outpatient procedure under a doctor’s supervision. The standard procedure is performed once and does not require anesthesia. The preparation is applied with a thin wooden spatula or with the accompanying glass capillary to the surface of the formation, previously degreased with 70% ethanol. The treatment is carried out by several applications at intervals of 1-2 minutes until the appearance of whitish-gray or grayish staining. Change of tissue color occurs within 2-3 minutes after application of the drug, in the presence of pronounced hyperkeratosis – within 5-7 minutes. At the same time there is a change in the consistency of the neoplasm to a denser one. The drug dosage depends on the type, size, density and severity of hyperkeratosis and may range from 0.02 ml to 0.2 ml. The maximal daily dose is 0.2 ml.
A transient strip of hyperemia and edema is observed around the neoplasm after the application of Mardil Selenium which disappears without a trace in 24-48 hours after the end of the procedure. No additional therapeutic measures are required after application. The day after application the pathological focus mummifies, acquires a dark brown color and sharply decreases in size. Mummified scabs detach only after complete epithelialization spontaneously in 2-3 weeks. Healing proceeds without complications, especially in the absence of secondary infection, leaving no significant scars, scars and deformations of adjacent tissues or impairment of functions of organs.
With large neoplasms and neoplasms with pronounced hyperkeratosis in case of their incomplete removal the repeated application of the preparation is possible.

Special Instructions
Handle with care.
The bottle should be shaken before opening and the solution at the top of the bottle should be transferred to the bottom of the bottle. The opened vial should be kept in a strictly vertical position.
Mardil Selenium contains acid. Avoid contact with healthy skin or mucosa. If Mardyl Selenium accidentally comes into contact with healthy skin or mucosa, it should be removed with a water-moistened cotton swab as soon as possible. Special precautions should be taken when treating skin lesions near the eye area. Avoid getting the drug into the eyes. If accidental contact of Mardil Selenium into the eyes occurs, rinse immediately with plenty of water and 1% sodium bicarbonate solution and then seek medical attention.
The mummified scab should not be removed by scraping or mechanical means. The scab must separate from the healthy skin on its own, otherwise tissue healing and scarring may be impaired. Until complete healing of the skin it is not recommended to swim in swimming pools and open reservoirs, and exposure to direct sunlight and ultraviolet radiation should be avoided. On the day of treatment it is recommended to limit water procedures. It is advisable to avoid traumatization and contamination of the treated lesion until complete epithelialization.
Disposal of used vials: Leftover product residue should be rinsed under running water before discarding the vial. You can dispose of the empty bottle in a waste container.
Contraindications
Side effects
The use of Mardil Selenium may result in changes in skin pigmentation and superficial scarring.
If the epithelialization process is normal, there is no secondary infection and the mummified scabs separate on their own, there is little chance of such effects.
Tissue edema may be observed, very rarely with individual sensitivity to the components of the drug allergic reactions in the form of skin itching are possible.
Overdose
If used improperly, Mardil Selenium should be rinsed off with running water to prevent damage to the deeper layers of the skin.
Healing can occur on its own without the use of additional medications or with the use of wound healing agents.
