Pharmaceutical action:

Magnesium is involved in most metabolic reactions, activates more than 300 enzymes. Irreplaceable element in the processes of energy supply and expenditure. It participates in the balance of electrolytes, ion transport, membrane permeability, in the regulation of nerve impulse transmission and in muscle contraction. It is a natural calcium antagonist.

Pharmacokinetics:

Magnesium is slowly and incompletely absorbed in the gastrointestinal tract and magnesium absorption is reduced with malabsorption syndrome and consumption of fat-rich foods. The unabsorbed part of magnesium is excreted through the intestine.

The serum contains about 1% of absorbed magnesium (0.8-1.0 mmol/L).About 45% of magnesium is bound to intracellular proteins and macroergic phosphates and is deposited in skeletal muscles, kidneys, liver, and myocardium. The remaining part is deposited in bone tissue; in small amounts in tissue fluid and erythrocytes.

Magnesium ions pass through the blood-brain barrier and the placental barrier.

Absorbed magnesium is eliminated by the kidneys, and only a small portion is excreted with the bile and through sweat glands. It is partially resorbed in the renal tubules. The rate of renal excretion is proportional to the plasma concentration and the value of glomerular filtration.

Indications

Magnesium deficiency, accompanied by symptoms such as: minor sleep disturbances, increased irritability, mild anxiety, increased fatigue, spasms of the calf muscles.

Composition

1 package:

– magnesium citrate 1.83 g (corresponding to magnesium 295.7 mg)

Contraindications

Increased individual sensitivity to the components of the drug Magnesium-Diasporal 300, severe renal failure, atrioventricular block, myasthenia gravis, hypermagnesemia, children under 12 years of age.

Due to the presence of sucrose in the preparation, Magnesium – Diasporal 300 is contraindicated in case of fructose intolerance, glucose or galactose malabsorption syndrome, or sucrase-isomaltase deficiency.

With caution.

Moderate renal failure (risk of developing hypermagnesemia).

Side Effects

Possible allergic reactions, disorders of the gastrointestinal tract: diarrhea, abdominal pain, constipation, nausea, flatulence.

Interaction

Aminoglycoside antibiotics, cisplatin and cyclosporine accelerate the excretion of magnesium.

Magnesium, iron, fluoride and tetracycline ions mutually influence each other’s absorption, therefore it is necessary to observe a 2-3 hour interval between taking Magnesium-Diasporal 300 and drugs containing the above substances.

Magnesium weakens the effect of indirect anticoagulants and reduces iron absorption.

Overdose

Symptoms of overdose: decreased blood pressure, nausea, vomiting, slowed reflexes, respiratory depression, coma, cardiac arrest, anuria.

Treatment: IV administration of calcium and IM or subcutaneous administration of 1-2 ampoules (0.5-1 mg/ml) of neostigmine methyl sulfate; intravenous or oral administration of 0.9% sodium chloride; in case of renal failure – hemodialysis or peritoneal dialysis.
