Magnesium preparation.
Magnesium is the most important trace element, is involved in more than 300 enzymatic reactions, the regulation of cellular permeability and neuromuscular excitability.
It is necessary for many energy processes and is involved in the metabolism of proteins, fats, carbohydrates and nucleic acids.
Magnesium has a curare-like effect on the termination of cholinergic neurons, with reduced release of acetylcholine.
Magnesium and calcium interact partially synergistically in the body: however, while competitively inhibiting calcium, magnesium can also affect binding sites as a physiological calcium antagonist.
Indications
Established magnesium deficiency, isolated or associated with other deficiency conditions, accompanied by symptoms such as:
– increased fatigue;
– increased irritability;
– tingling sensation in muscles.
– minor sleep disturbances;
– gastrointestinal cramps;
– pain and muscle cramps;
If there is no reduction in these symptoms after one month of treatment, continued treatment is not advisable.
Active ingredient
Composition
How to take, the dosage
Overly, before meals, with a small amount of liquid.
Prescribe 2 tablets 3 times a day for 7 days, then 1 tablet 2-3 times daily.
The course of treatment is 4 weeks.
Interaction
The simultaneous administration of magnesium-containing drugs with preparations of iron, sodium fluoride and tetracyclines may reduce the absorption of the latter. In addition, aminoquinolines, quinidine, penicillamine should not be administered simultaneously with magnesium preparations. Therefore, these drugs should be taken 2-3 h apart.
The oral contraceptives, diuretics, muscle relaxants, GCS, insulin, reduce the effect of the drug.
Magnesium should be used with caution while using magnesium-containing medications such as antacids or laxatives, or potassium-saving diuretics or calcium-containing medications.
Simultaneous use with drugs containing aluminum may increase aluminum absorption in the body.
Magnesium should be used with caution when used concomitantly with foxglove drugs because concomitant use may interfere with absorption of foxglove drugs.
Some antibiotics (aminoglycosides), cisplatin and cyclosporine A may lead to increased magnesium excretion.
Some diuretics (thiazides and furosemide), cetuximab and erlotinib, proton pump inhibitors (omeprazole and pantoprazole), foscarnet, pentamidine, rapamicin and amphotericin B may cause magnesium deficiency and thus lead to reduced drug effect.
Special Instructions
The drug contains lactose monohydrate, therefore its use is not recommended in patients with hereditary galactosemia, glucose and galactose malabsorption syndrome and lactase deficiency.
Impact on ability to drive vehicles and mechanisms
The drug does not affect the ability to drive vehicles, operate machinery and engage in other activities requiring increased concentration and speed of psychomotor reactions.
Features
Absorbed approximately 35-40% of the administered dose.
Hypomagnesemia stimulates the absorption of magnesium ions.
The presence of orotic acid salts improves magnesium absorption.
Magnesium is excreted by the kidneys; excretion is reduced in magnesium deficiency and increased in magnesium excess.
Contraindications
Hypersensitivity to the ingredients of the drug,
Pelvic stone disease;
Kidney function disorders;
predisposition to form calcium-magnesium-ammonium-phosphate stones;
hepatic cirrhosis with ascites.
children under 18 years of age.
The drug contains lactose, so it should not be used in patients with lactose intolerance, lactase deficiency, or glucose-galactose malabsorption.
Side effects
Gastrointestinal disorders: unsteady stools and diarrhea, which usually go away on their own with reduction of the drug dose.
Immune system disorders: allergic reactions.
Overdose
In normal renal function, ingestion of magnesium does not cause toxic reactions.
Magnesium poisoning may develop in renal failure. Toxic effects mainly depend on the concentration of magnesium in the blood serum.
Symptoms: decreased BP, nausea, vomiting, depression, slowed reflexes, respiratory depression, coma, cardiac arrest, anuric syndrome.
Treatment: rehydration, forced diuresis. In renal failure hemodialysis or peritoneal dialysis is necessary.
