Pharmacological properties

Compensates for magnesium deficiency.

Magnesium is a vital element that is found in all body tissues and is necessary for normal functioning of cells. It participates in most metabolic reactions, in the regulation of nerve impulse transmission and muscle contraction, has antispasmodic, antiarrhythmic and anti-aggregant effects.

The body gets magnesium with food. Lack of magnesium in the body may be observed in violation of diet (diet) or increased need for magnesium (with increased physical and mental stress, pregnancy, use of diuretics).

Pyridoxine (vitamin B₆) is involved in many metabolic processes, in the regulation of metabolism of the nervous system. Vitamin B₆ improves the absorption of magnesium from the gastrointestinal tract and its penetration into cells.

The serum magnesium content:

– 12 to 17 mg/L (0.5 to 0.7 mmol/L) indicates moderate magnesium deficiency.

– below 12 mg/L (0.5 mmol/L) indicates severe magnesium deficiency.

Pharmacokinetics

The absorption of magnesium in the gastrointestinal tract is 50% of the oral dose. It is excreted mainly through the kidneys. In the kidneys, after glomerular filtration 70% of the magnesium present in the plasma is reabsorbed by the renal tubules in the proportion of 95% to 97%.

Indications

Established magnesium deficiency, isolated or associated with other deficiency conditions, accompanied by symptoms such as: increased irritability; minor sleep disturbances; gastrointestinal cramps; palpitations; increased fatigue; muscle aches and spasms, tingling sensation in muscles.

Composition

Active ingredients

Magnesium lactate dihydrate – 470 mg

In terms of magnesium (Mg2+) – 48 mg

Pyridoxine hydrochloride – 5 mg

Excipients:

Saccharose (white sugar) – 27.4 mg, kaolin – 41.0 mg, acacia gum (gum arabic) – 25.0 mg, collidone SR [polyvinyl acetate 80%, povidone (K 30) 19%, sodium lauryl sulfate 0.8%, silica dioxide 0.2%] – 34.0 mg, magnesium stearate – 6.8 mg, sodium carmellose – 34.0 mg, talc – 6.8 mg.

How to take, the dosage

Consult a doctor before taking this medicine.

Adults are recommended to take 6-8 tablets a day.

Children over 6 years of age (body weight over 20 kg) 4-6 tablets per day.

The full dose should be divided into 2-3 doses, taken with meals, with a glass of water.

The treatment should be stopped after normalization of magnesium concentration in blood.

Interaction

The simultaneous use of drugs containing phosphates or calcium salts may significantly reduce magnesium absorption in the gastrointestinal tract.

Magnesium preparations reduce absorption of tetracycline; it is recommended that the administration of these drugs be separated by three-hour intervals.

Magnesium weakens the effect of oral thrombolytics and decreases iron absorption.

Vitamin B6 inhibits the activity of levodopa.

Special Instructions

Information for diabetic patients: The tablets contain sucrose as an excipient.

In case of concomitant calcium deficiency, magnesium deficiency should be eliminated before starting calcium preparations.

In frequent use of laxatives, alcohol, and strenuous physical and mental activity, the need for magnesium increases, which can lead to magnesium deficiency in the body.

Impact on ability to drive vehicles, mechanisms

The drug has no adverse effect on driving and performing potentially hazardous activities requiring increased concentration and quick psychomotor reactions.

Contraindications

Hypersensitivity to the ingredients of the drug, severe renal insufficiency (creatinine clearance less than 30 ml/min), sucrose/isomaltase deficiency, fructose intolerance, glucose-galactose malabsorption.

Children under 6 years of age.

With caution: in moderate renal insufficiency, because there is a risk of hypermagnesemia.

Overdose

In normal renal function, oral administration of magnesium does not cause toxic reactions. Magnesium poisoning may develop in renal failure. Toxic effects mainly depend on the serum magnesium content.

The symptoms of overdose: drop in blood pressure, nausea, vomiting, slowed reflexes, anuria, respiratory depression, coma, cardiac arrest.

Treatment: rehydration, forced diuresis. In case of renal failure hemodialysis or peritoneal dialysis is necessary.

Pregnancy use

Pregnancy

Clinical experience has shown no fetotoxic or fetal defects. Magnelis® B6 may be used during pregnancy only by prescription.

Breast-feeding period

Magnesium penetrates into the breast milk. The use of the drug during breastfeeding should be avoided.
