The drug has antipruritic, antiexudative action. It does not have antiserotonin and anticholinergic effects. It prevents the development of various allergic reactions and significantly relieves them.
The administration in the indicated therapeutic doses does not cause sedation. It does not affect the electrocardiogram.
The active substance is levocetirizine – a representative of the group of competitive histamine antagonists. Completely blocks histamine H1-receptors and shows a high level of selectivity to H1-GR. It has an effect on the allergic reaction in the histamine-dependent stage.
Controlling eotaxins that stimulate transendothelial migration of eosinophils by completely blocking the expression of vascular cell adhesion molecule 1, significantly reduces vascular permeability, eosinophil migration and limits the release of inflammatory mediators.

How to take, the dosage
It is taken orally, regardless of meals.
Adults and children over 6 years of age – 5 mg once daily.
In children aged 2-6 years – 1.25 mg 2 times a day.
The duration of treatment depends on the type, duration and course of symptoms. It takes 3-6 weeks to treat hay fever, and for short-term exposure to pollen it is usually sufficient to take the drug for 1 week.
Interaction
Decreased clearance of cetirizine (16%) was observed with repeated administration of theophylline (400 mg once daily); however, the pharmacokinetics of theophylline was not altered by concomitant administration of cetirizine.
In susceptible patients, concomitant use of levocetirizine and ethanol or other CNS depressants may lead to potentiation of CNS depressant effects.

The recommended daily dose should not be exceeded.
The patient should be warned that alcohol consumption during treatment with levocetirizine is not recommended.
