Pharmacological Properties
Ketoprofen is a non-steroidal anti-inflammatory drug whose main properties are analgesic, anti-inflammatory and anti-edema.
It penetrates well into the subcutaneous tissue, ligaments and muscles, into the synovial fluid and reaches therapeutic concentrations there. The concentration of the drug in plasma is extremely low. Ketoprofen has no negative effect on the articular cartilage.
Indications
Symptomatic therapy of diseases and inflammatory processes of different origin, including:
– Rheumatoid arthritis and periarthritis.
– Ankylosing spondylitis (Behterev’s disease).
– Psoriatic arthritis.
– Reactive arthritis (Reiter’s syndrome).
– Osteoarthritis of different localization.
– Tendinitis.
– Bursitis.
– Myalgia.
– Neuralgia.
– Radiculitis.
– Musculoskeletal injuries (including sports), contusions of muscles and ligaments, sprains, ligament and muscle tendon tears.

Composition
1 g of cream for external use contains:

How to take, the dosage
For external use.
A small amount of cream (3-5 cm) should be lightly rubbed in a thin layer on the skin of the inflamed or painful area of the body 2-3 times a day.
The course of treatment should not exceed 14 days.
Interaction
The simultaneous use of other topical forms (ointments, gels) containing ketoprofen or other NSAIDs is not recommended.
Concomitant use of acetylsalicylic acid reduces the degree of binding of ketoprofen to plasma proteins.
Ketoprofen reduces excretion of methotrexate and contributes to its toxicity.
Interactions with other medicinal products and effect on their excretion are not significant.
Special Instructions
Avoid contact of the drug with the mucous membranes and eyes.
If any side effects occur, discontinue use of the drug and consult a physician.
At all times during therapy, direct sunlight and ultraviolet radiation should be avoided.
If you forget to apply the cream, apply it at the time the next dose is due, but do not double it.
The cream may be used in combination with other dosage forms of Ketonal: capsules (Ketonal Caps. 50 mg prep. 25 Lek d.d.), tablets (Ketonal Tablets 100 mg prep. 20 Lek d.d.), suppositories (Ketonal Supp. 100 mg prep. 12 Lek d.d.). The total daily dose regardless of the drug dose should not exceed 200 mg.
Contraindications
– Hypersensitivity to ketoprofen, or other components of the drug, as well as salicylates or other non-steroidal anti-inflammatory drugs.
– Indication in the history of bronchial asthma attacks after using NSAIDs and salicylates.
– Third trimester of pregnancy.
– Childhood under 12 years.
– Skin disorders:
– Eczema.
– Moist dermatitis.
– Open or infected wound.
With caution: impaired liver and/or kidney function, erosive and ulcerative gastrointestinal lesions, blood diseases, bronchial asthma, chronic heart failure.
Overdose
Symptoms: irritation, erythema, itching.
Treatment: the drug should be stopped and a doctor should be consulted.
The treatment is symptomatic.
