Pharmacodynamics
Topical antiseptic agent with predominantly bactericidal action against Gram-positive and Gram-negative bacteria, has fungicidal and virucidal action (against lipophilic viruses).
It is active against protozoa, Gram-positive and Gram-negative bacteria, viruses including Treponema pallidum, Chlamydia spp., Ureaplasma spp., Neisseria gonorrhoeae, Trichomonas vaginalis, Gardnerella vaginalis, Bacteroides fragilis, Herpes simplex 2 type.
Some strains of Pseudomonas spp., Proteus spp. are weakly sensitive to the drug, as well as acid-resistant forms of bacteria, bacterial spores. Chlorhexidine does not impair the functional activity of lactobacilli. Maintains activity (although somewhat reduced) in the presence of blood, pus.

Indications
Inflammation of the female genitalia, Vaginitis
- Treatment of bacterial vaginosis, colpitis (including nonspecific, mixed, trichomoniasis).
- Prevention of infectious and inflammatory complications in obstetrics and gynecology (before surgical treatment of gynecological diseases, before childbirth and abortion, before and after placing an intrauterine device (IUD), before and after cervical diathermic coagulation, before IUD examinations).
- Prevention of sexually transmitted infections (chlamydia, ureaplasmosis, trichomoniasis, gonorrhea, syphilis, genital herpes) – use no later than 2 hours after intercourse.

Composition
One tablet contains: active substance – chlorhexidine bigluconate – 16.0 mg (in the form of chlorhexidine bigluconate solution 20% – 85.2 mg); excipients: microcrystalline cellulose, corn starch pregelatinized, povidon K 17, stearic acid, lactose monohydrate.
How to take, the dosage
For the prevention of venereal diseases is prescribed once a soup.
The drug should be used not later than 2 hours after sexual intercourse.
For treatment, 1 soup is prescribed. 2 times a day for 7-10 days.
If necessary, it is possible to extend therapy for up to 20 days.
Interaction
Hexicon is not compatible with detergents containing an anionic group (saponins, sodium lauryl sulfate, sodium carboxymethylcellulose) and soaps.
The presence of soap may inactivate chlorhexidine, so so soap residue should be thoroughly washed off before using the product.
Special Instructions
WC of the external genitalia does not affect the effectiveness and tolerability of vaginal Hexicon® tablets because the drug is used intravaginally.
It is possible to use during menstruation, because Hexicon® tablets retain their activity, although somewhat reduced, in the presence of blood, pus and other body fluids.
