Pharmic action: < br>

Helminthox is an antihelminthic drug. Causes neuromuscular blockade of sensitive helminthes and ensures their expulsion from the gastrointestinal tract without excitation and stimulation of migration of the affected helminthes. In the intestinal lumen it is effective against mature and immature sensitive helminthes of both sexes.

Highly effective against infestations caused by pinworms (Enterobius vermicularis), ascarias (Ascaris lumbricoides), ankylostomas (Ankylostoma duodenale and Necator americanus).

Pharmacokinetics:

Absorption

It is practically not absorbed from the GI tract. After a single dose of 12.5 mg/kg body weight, the plasma concentration of pyrantel is 0.05-0.13 µg/ml for 1-3 hours.

Metabolism and excretion

Partially metabolized in the liver to K-methyl-1,3-propanediamine.< br> Excreted through the intestine (about 93%) unchanged, by the kidneys (7%) – unchanged or as a metabolite.

polysorbate 80,

polyvidone excipient,

dehydrated citric acid,

sodium benzoate,

silicone emulsion,

aluminum and magnesium colloidal silicate,

purified water,

the flavoring is blackcurrant caramel.

How to take, the dosage

Over the mouth, at any time of the day, without taking laxatives beforehand, not necessarily on an empty stomach.

The tablets are for adults and children over 6 years of age.

In children under 6 years of age, only the suspension is recommended. The suspension is intended for children weighing more than 12 kg. Shake the suspension before use.

1 ml of the suspension contains 50 mg of pyrantel base, 1 scoop (2.5 ml) contains 125 mg of pyrantel base.

A pinworms and ascarids: in the treatment of enterobiasis and ascariasis the drug is prescribed once in the recommended dose.

The usual dosage is 12.5 mg/kg once:

To prevent re-infection, repeat taking the drug after 3 weeks.

Ankylostomas: in endemic areas, in case of Necator americanus infection or severeAnkylostoma duodenale infection, 25 mg/kg/day (in 1 or 2 doses) for 2-3 days:

In case of infection with Ankylostoma duodenale outside endemic areas (runs more easily) – at a dose of 12.5 mg/kg in 1 dose.

Interaction

Simultaneous use of pyrantel increases plasma concentration of theophylline.

Contraindications

Cautiously: the drug should be administered in children under 6 months of age.

Side effects

Digestive system disorders: sometimes – nausea, vomiting, abdominal pain, diarrhea, loss of appetite (most often these symptoms are caused by death of helminths), slight transient increase in liver transaminase activity.

CNS and peripheral nervous system disorders: headache, dizziness, feeling of fatigue, drowsiness or insomnia, hearing disorders, hallucinations, confusion, paresthesias.

Allergic reactions: itching, urticaria, exanthema.

Others: hyperthermia.

Pregnancy use

In pregnancy the drug should be used only if absolutely necessary.

Pirantel is excreted with breast milk. Therefore, it is not recommended to use the drug Helminthox during breastfeeding.
