Gonadotropin chorionic is a gonadotropic hormone. It is produced by the human placenta and excreted in the urine, from where it can be extracted and purified. It stimulates the production of progesterone by the corpus luteum and supports the development of the placenta. It has a gonadotropic effect, mainly luteinizing.
Farmacokinetics
It is well absorbed after injection. T1/2 is 8 h.
Chorionic gonadotropin is believed to be modified in the body before excretion with the urine, as its T1/2, as measured by immunological method, is much higher than this figure determined by biological activity.
Indications
For women:
Induction of ovulation after stimulation of follicle growth;
Maintaining ovarian corpus luteum function in patients with luteal phase insufficiency.
For boys and men:
Cryptorchidism (ectopy, retention of testicles in the abdominal cavity or inguinal canal);
Delayed puberty;
Hypogonadotropic hypogonadism (in combination with human menopausal gonadotropin preparations);
. In the differential diagnostic test of anorchism and cryptorchidism in boys;
In the Leydig functional test to evaluate testicular function in hypogonadotropic hypogonadism before long-term stimulant treatment.

Composition
Active substance:
Chorionic gonadotropin 5000 IU
How to take, the dosage
Gonadotropin chorionic is administered intramuscularly. The dose is individualized depending on the nature and severity of the disease and age of the patient and ranges from 500 to 3000 units per day.
The drug is administered to men 2-3 times a week in courses of 4 weeks with intervals of 4-6 weeks. Three to six courses of treatment are made during 6 to 12 months. Long uninterrupted use of the drug is not recommended because of the danger of antibody formation and suppression of gonadotropic function of the pituitary gland.
In cases of anovulatory cycles with high level of estrogens in women with normal follicle maturation the drug is administered starting from day 10-12 of the cycle in dose 3000 units in 2-3 times with 2-3 day intervals or in dose 1500 units in 6-7 times a day.
In cases of interstitial pituitary insufficiency, treatment with chorionic gonadotropin is better performed after prior treatment with follicle-stimulating hormone in the first phase of the cycle. In hypophysial gonadism with symptoms of sexual infantilism the drug is administered in a dose of 500-1000 units 1-2 times a week for 1-2 months by repeated courses.
The treatment with chorionic gonadotropin for cryptorchidism in children is most effective up to the age of 10 years. The dosage and duration of treatment are individual depending on the location of the unexpanded testicle and the nature of cryptorchidism (unilateral or bilateral).
The following scheme of treatment is most widely used: in cryptorchidism in children under 10 years old administer 500-1000 units, at the age of 10-14 years – 1500 units 2 times a week for 4-6 weeks with repeated courses.
Contraindications
Side effects
Endocrine system disorders in women: possible development of ovarian hyperstimulation syndrome, accompanied by the development of ovarian cysts with the risk of rupture, ascites, hydrothorax and the risk of thromboembolism.
Endocrine system in boys and men: temporary reversible enlargement of the mammary glands, prostate, water and electrolyte retention, common acne may occur;
In boys, behavioral changes similar to those observed during the first phase of puberty may occur, which subside upon completion of treatment.
