Pharmacid:

Gastracid is a combined agent, the action of which is due to its constituent components. Algeldrate has antacid, adsorptive, enveloping, diarrheal action.

Magnesium hydroxide has a mild laxative effect.

The drug neutralizes free HCl in the stomach, reduces gastric juice activity; inactivates pepsin and binds bile acids entering the stomach as a result of reflux from the duodenum; it has a protective effect on the mucous membrane of the stomach and duodenum; accelerates motility of the stomach and all parts of the intestine. It does not cause secondary hypersecretion of HCl and alkalosis.

How to take, the dosage

In the oral cavity, the tablets should be chewed or kept in the mouth until they are completely absorbed.

Adults and children over 15 years of age: 1-2 tablets 4 times a day 1 hour after a meal and in the evening before going to bed or in case of discomfort, epigastric pain or heartburn.

The maximum daily dose is 12 tablets.

Children from 10 to 15 years of age are prescribed 1/2 the recommended dose for adults.

For prophylaxis, 1 tablet 15 minutes before taking drugs that irritate the mucous membrane of the esophagus, stomach and duodenum.

The duration of treatment should not exceed 15-20 days.

Interaction

May absorb some drugs, thus reducing their absorption. Reduces and slows absorption of digoxin, indomethacin, salicylates, chlorpromazine, phenytoin, H2- histaminoblockers, beta-adrenoblockers, diflunisal, isoniazid, tetracycline antibiotics, quinolones (ciprofloxacin, norfloxacin, ofloxacin, enoxacin, grepafloxacin, etc.), azithromycin, cefpodoxime, pivampicillin, rifampicin, indirect anticoagulants, barbiturates, fexofenadine, dipyridamole, zalcitabine, bile acids – chenodeoxycholic and ursodeoxycholic, penicillamine, drugs of iron and lithium, quinidine, lansoprazole, mexiletine, ketoconazole.

If taken concomitantly with enteric-soluble drugs, increased alkalinity of gastric juices may lead to premature disruption of the lining and irritation of the stomach and duodenum.

M-cholinoblockers, by slowing gastric emptying, enhance and prolong the effects of the drug.

Special Instructions

The interval between taking Gastracid and other drugs should be 1-2 hours.

In case of long-term use (more than 20 days), regular medical supervision is necessary. The drug contains sorbitol, which is contraindicated in cases of congenital fructose intolerance.

Driving and operating machinery

It does not affect the ability to drive and operate machinery.

Contraindications

Side effects

Contipation, nausea, vomiting, stomach cramps, changes in taste sensation, hypermagnesemia, hypophosphatemia, hypocalcemia, hypercalciuria, osteomalacia, osteoporosis, hyperaluminemia, encephalopathy, nephrocalcinosis, impaired renal function, allergic reactions. In patients with concomitant renal failure – thirst, decreased BP, hyporeflexia.

Overdose

Symptoms: prolonged use in high doses may cause kidney stones, severe constipation, drowsiness, hypermagnesemia. There may also be signs of metabolic alkalosis: mood changes, numbness or pain in the muscles, nervousness and rapid fatigue, unpleasant taste sensations.

Treatment: measures must be taken immediately to quickly eliminate the drug – flush the stomach, induce vomiting, take activated charcoal.

Pregnancy use

During pregnancy, the drug should be taken under the supervision of a physician and not more than 3 days.

The use in breastfeeding mothers should be avoided.
