Active ingredient
Composition
1 tablet contains 0.05 g of furazolidone; 10 pieces in a contoured sealed box.
How to take, the dosage
In dysentery, paratyphoid, food toxic infections in adults it is used 50-150 mg 4 times a day for 5-10 days. In children doses are reduced in accordance with age.
In case of giardiasis for adults, 100 mg 4 times a day; for children, 10 mg/kg/day in 3-4 doses.
In trichomonas urethritis – 100 mg 4 times/day for 3 days. Maximal doses for adults: single dose 200 mg, daily dose 800 mg.
Interaction
Furazolidone is a monoamine oxidase inhibitor: the same precautions should be observed when using it as with other monoamine oxidase inhibitors.
The aminoglycosides and tetracyclines increase the antimicrobial properties of furazolidone. Sensitizes the body to alcohol.
Furazolidone increases the suppression of hematopoiesis against chloramphenicol and ristomycin.
Contraindications
– pregnancy and lactation;
– terminal stage of chronic renal failure;
– glucose-6-dehydrogenase deficiency;
– childhood age less than 1 year;
– increased individual sensitivity to the group of nitrofurans.
Side effects
Nausea, vomiting, decreased appetite may occur; in some cases, allergic reactions may develop.
In order to reduce adverse reactions when using furazolidone it is recommended to take it before meals and wash down the drug with plenty of fluids, if necessary, reduce the dose, prescribe antihistamines and B vitamins.
In case of pronounced side effects the drug should be discontinued.
