Frautest amnio is a non-invasive test for self-diagnosis of amniotic fluid leakage (slow or intermittent leakage) in a pregnant woman’s vaginal secretions based on the pH of the vaginal secretions. The test is able to distinguish amniotic fluid from abundant vaginal discharge and urine, which prevents often unnecessary visits to the doctor, which can be seen as a “false alarm.

The pads consist of a standard pad with a test strip incorporating a proprietary polymer containing a colorimetric indicator that turns yellow to green-blue when in contact with fluids with a high pH value. Normal vaginal pH is 3.8-4.5, amniotic fluid pH 6.5-7. The test pad changes color when it comes in contact with fluids that have a pH greater than 5.5.

The test differentiates amniotic fluid from urine through the use of a polymer matrix that uses a special composition of ingredients that change back to yellow when reacting with concentrations of ammonia, which is part of the urine.

The pH indicator is linked to the polymer and is located inside between the two absorbent layers of the pad. There is no physical contact of the woman’s body with the diagnostic components.
