Floxal, eye ointment 3 mg/g 3 g

Ofloxacin is an antimicrobial drug from the group of fluoroquinolones of broad spectrum action.

The bactericidal effect of Ofloxacin is associated with blockade of DNA enzyme – gyrase in bacterial cells.

Highly active against most gram-negative microorganisms: Esherichia coli, Salmonella spp, Proteus spp, Morganella morganii, Shigella spp, Klebsiella spp, Enterobacter spp , Serratia spp, Citrobacter spp, Yersinia spp, Providencia spp, Haemopilus influenzae , Neisseria gonorrhoeae, Neisseria menigitidis, Mycoplasma spp, Legionella pneumophila, Acinetobacter spp, Chlamydia spp.

Active against some strains of Gram-positive microorganisms, in particular Staphylococcus spp, Streptococcus spp.

Limitedly sensitive to Ofloxacin Enterococcus faecalis, Streptococcus pneumoniae, Pseudomonas spp.

Ofloxacin acts on microorganisms producing beta-lactamase.

The drug is not sensitive to anaerobic bacteria (except B. Urealiticus).

Pharmacokinetics

Therapeutic concentrations of the drug in the ocular tissues are achieved with local administration.

Infectious inflammatory diseases of the anterior eye caused by Ofloxacin-sensitive microorganisms:

Composition

1 g – ofloxacin 3 mg

Excipients:

liquid paraffin – 100 mg,

wool grease – 50 mg,

white petroleum jelly – 847 mg.

How to take, the dosage

1.5 cm strips of the ointment are placed behind the lower eyelid of the affected eye 2-3 times a day;

in case of chlamydial infection – 5 times a day. It is not recommended to use the drug for more than 2 weeks.

In case of simultaneous use of more than one drug, the ointment should be used last.

Interaction

Drug interactions of Floxal have not been described.

Special Instructions

Wear contact lenses while using the drug

Avoid prolonged exposure to bright light and wear sunglasses (due to possible development of photophobia).

Impact on driving and operating machinery

Patients should refrain from potentially hazardous activities during visual disturbances associated with instillation of eye drops or application of the ointment until the adverse events disappear.

Contraindications

Side effects

Possible: allergic reactions, transient conjunctival hyperemia, burning sensation, eye discomfort, itching and dryness of the conjunctiva, photophobia, lacrimation.

Rarely: dizziness.

Overdose

There are no data on overdose with Floxal.

Pregnancy use

There is no data on the negative effect of Ofloxacin on the fetus, but the drug is contraindicated for use during pregnancy and lactation (breastfeeding).
