The drug Fibro-Vein has a venosclerosing effect, it has surface-active properties.
Injection of the drug into the lumen of the varicose vein causes irritation of the vessel intima with subsequent fibrosis, adhesion of the vein walls and its obliteration.
It has no noticeable effect on the functions of the central and peripheral nervous system, cardiovascular system, renal and liver function, biochemical parameters of blood and urine.
In contact with perivascular tissues it has an irritating effect.

Composition
Active substance:
Sodium tetradecyl sulfate 0.2 mg.
How to take, the dosage
Fibro-Vein is injected intravenously, into the lumen of an isolated segment of an empty superficial vein with immediate prolonged compression (application of a compression bandage).
The dosage is determined according to the size of the vein to be sclerosed; the usual dose is 1 ml (no more) per site.
Fibro-Vein 0.2% has a maximum single dose of up to 10 ml. If necessary, additional injections are performed after a 2-week break.
Interaction
Pharmaceutically incompatible with heparin. It is not recommended to combine with oral contraceptives (especially anti-ovulatory).
Special Instructions
1. Fibro-Vein should be used by physicians proficient in sclerotherapy techniques. Valve insufficiency and the condition of deep veins should be properly evaluated.
2. Vein sclerosing should be performed with caution when absolute certainty of patency of deep and communicating veins of the lower extremities is assured.
3. Before treatment, the patient’s allergic history should be known. It is possible to give 0,25-0,5 ml of Fibro-Vein 24 hours before the treatment to detect possible allergic reactions.
4. Caution should be exercised when treating patients with peripheral atherosclerosis, Buerger’s disease.
5. The drug should be injected particularly carefully in the area above and behind the medial ankle, because the posterior tibial artery is located there.
6. Avoid extravasal (para-venous) and intraarterial administration.
7. Do not use the drug if precipitation or color change of the solution.
8. Precipitate formation is possible in the solution which dissolves upon heating.
9. For prevention of relapse after treatment the patients are recommended to wear elastic stockings.

Side effects
Local reactions: skin hyperemia, slight soreness or burning sensation at the injection site is possible.
Allergic reactions: Rare.
