The chemical composition of motherwort: flavonol glycosides (mainly rutin), essential oil, saponins, stachydrin alkaloid, tannins, carotene.

Activity motherwort: has sedative properties, lowers blood pressure, slows heart rate, has anticonvulsant activity. Also has a positive effect on carbohydrate and fat metabolism, lowers levels of glucose, lactic and pyruvic acids, cholesterol, total lipids in the blood, and normalizes indices of protein metabolism.
