Pharmacodynamics

The active ingredient, simethicone, reduces gas in the gastrointestinal tract (GIT): Has surface-active properties and the ability to reduce the surface tension at the interface of the medium liquid / gas, which hinders the formation of gas bubbles, and also contributes to their coalescence and destruction of foam in the intestine, whereby the released gas is absorbed and eliminated naturally under the influence of intestinal peristalsis. The use of simmentikon in preparation for diagnostic examinations prevents image defects caused by gas bubbles.

Pharmacokinetics

Simethicone is chemically inert and after oral administration is not absorbed from the GI tract and acts only in its lumen. It does not interact with microorganisms and enzymes and does not affect digestive processes. It is excreted by the intestine unchanged.

The drug contains in 1 ml (25 drops):

Active ingredient: simethicone* – 40.00 mg

Associates: macrogoal stearate, glyceryl monostearate 40-55, carbomer, banana flavoring, potassium acesulfame, liquid sorbitol (noncrystallizable), sodium chloride, sodium citrate, sodium hydroxide, sorbic acid, purified water.

*Simethicone consists of dimethicone (polydimethylsiloxane (PDMS)) and silicon dioxide in the ratio 96:4.

How to take, the dosage

Ingestion. The bottle with the emulsion should be shaken before use. The drug can be dosed in drops or in milliliters using the measuring cup. For drip dosing the bottle must be held vertically with the orifice down.

The drug is taken with or after meals and, if necessary, before going to bed.

The number of times and duration of use depend on the severity of the symptoms. If necessary the drug Espumisan® L may be taken for a long time

In complaints associated with excessive gas and intestinal colic

Infants (up to 1 year): 1 ml (25 drops) of Espumisan® L with each feeding (added to a bottle of baby food or given with a small spoon during or after a feeding).

Children from 1 to 6 years of age: 1 ml (25 drops) of Espumisan® L 3-5 times a day.

Children from 6 to 14 years of age: 1 ml (25-50 drops) of Espumisan® L 3-5 times a day.

Children from 14 years of age and adults: 2 ml (50 drops) of Espumisan® L 3-5 times a day.

In preparation for X-ray examination and ultrasound

Perform 2 ml (50 drops) of Espumisan L.sup>® L 3 times daily the day before the study and 2 ml (50 drops) of Espumisan® L on the morning of the study day.

To obtain a double contrast image

Add 4-8 ml of Espumisan® L per 1 liter of contrast suspension.

In preparation for esophagogastroduodenoscopy

Inject 4-8 ml of Espumisan® L before the examination. During endoscopy, if necessary, a few milliliters of the emulsion can be injected through the endoscope channel to eliminate gas bubbles that interfere with the examination.

In acute poisoning from detergents containing tensides.

In children – 2.5-10 ml of Espumisan® L, in adults – 10-20 ml of Espumisan® L depending on the severity of poisoning.

Special Instructions

If excessive gas and/or intestinal colic persists for a long time, a doctor should be consulted for a medical evaluation.

Espumisan® L contains sorbitol (sorbitol), so its use in patients with hereditary fructose intolerance is contraindicated.

Information for diabetic patients: 1 ml (25 drops) contains 148 mg sorbitol, which corresponds to 0.012 bread units (BE).

Influence of the drug on driving and operating ability

The drug Espumisan ® L does not affect the ability to drive vehicles and work requiring high concentration.
