Pharmacological properties

Pharmacodynamics.
The drug Espumisan^® extra reduces gas in the gastrointestinal tract (GIT). The active substance, simethicone, has surface-active properties and is able to reduce the surface tension at the interface between the two environments liquid/gas, which promotes the fusion of gas bubbles and destruction of foam in the intestine, whereupon the released gas is absorbed or excreted naturally under the influence of intestinal peristalsis. The use of simethicone in preparation for diagnostic abdominal examinations prevents image defects caused by gas bubbles.

Pharmacokinetics
Simethicone is chemically inert and after oral administration is not absorbed from the GI tract and acts only in its lumen. It does not interact with microorganisms and enzymes and does not affect digestive processes. It is excreted intestinally unchanged.

Active ingredient: – 125, 00 mg

Additives: sorbitol – 647.90 mg, talc – 20.00 mg, malic acid – 6.00 mg, lemon flavoring – 1.00 mg, cream flavoring – 0.10 mg.

How to take, the dosage

Inwards. The contents of the bag is poured into the mouth, right on the tongue. It is not required to wash down the pellets with water (if necessary, you can wash them down with water).

The drug is taken before or after meals; if necessary, before going to bed.

The number of times and duration of use depend on the severity of the symptoms.

Espumisan® Extra can be taken for longer periods if needed.

For complaints related to excessive gas
Adults and children over 14 years of age: 1 sachet of Espumisan® Extra before or after meals, if necessary 1 sachet may be taken additionally before bedtime.
If necessary, the single dose can be increased to 2 sachets of Espumisan® Extra.
Maximal daily dose is 6 sachets of Espumisan® Extra which corresponds to 750 mg of simethicone.
Children from 6 to 14 years:1 sachet of Espumisan® Extra before or after meals; if necessary 1 sachet can be taken additionally before sleeping.
Maximal daily dose is 3 sachets of Espumisan® Extra which corresponds to 375 mg of simethicone.

In preparation for X-ray and ultrasound examination
Use 1 sachet of Espumisan Extra.sup>® extra 3 times daily after meals the day before the study and 1 sachet of Espumisan® extra in the morning of the day of study.

Espumisan® Extra is intended for adults and children over 6 years of age. For children under 6 years of age the drug Espumisan® should be used in emulsion form.

Interaction

There are no clinically significant interactions of simethicone with other drugs.

Special Instructions

If excessive gas persists for a long time, it is necessary to consult a doctor for medical examination.
The drug Espumisan® Extra contains sorbitol (sorbitol), therefore its use in patients with hereditary fructose intolerance is contraindicated.
Information for diabetic patients: 1 sachet contains 647.90 mg of sorbitol, which corresponds to 0.05 bread units (BE).

Impact of the drug on the ability to drive vehicles and other mechanisms

The drug Espumisan ® Extra does not affect the ability to drive vehicles and other mechanisms and to perform work, which requires high concentration of attention.
