When used in high doses depending on the type of pathogen it may show bactericidal effect.
The spectrum of action includes gram-positive (Staphylococcus spp., Streptococcus spp, Bacillus anthracis, Corynebacterium diphtheriae) and gram-negative (Neisseria gonorrhoeae, Haemophilus influenzae, Bordetella pertussis, Brucella spp., Legionella spp.) microorganisms, as well as Mycoplasma spp., Chlamidia spp., Treponema spp., Rickettsia spp. Gram-negative bacilli Escherichia coli, Pseudomonas aeruginosa, as well as Shigella spp., Bacteroides fragilis, Enterobacter spp. are resistant to the drug.
