Pharmaceutical action:

The drug of natural origin, has an adsorptive effect. It stabilizes the mucous barrier, forms polyvalent bonds with glycoproteins of mucus, increases the amount of mucus, improves its gastroprotective properties (against the negative effect of hydrogen ions of HCI, bile salts, microorganisms and their toxins).

It possesses selective sorption properties due to its discoid-crystalline structure; it adsorbs bacteria and viruses located in the lumen of the gastrointestinal tract (GIT). In therapeutic doses does not affect intestinal motility.

Pharmacokinetics:

It is not absorbed, excreted unchanged.

Indications

Diarrhea (allergic, medicinal genesis, violation of diet and qualitative composition of food); diarrhea of infectious genesis – in the treatment.
Symptomatic treatment of heartburn, flatulence, and other symptoms of dyspepsia associated with gastrointestinal diseases.

Active ingredient

Composition

1 sachet:

– dioctahedral smectite 3 g;

Supplementary substances:

glucose (dextrose) 0.749 g,

vanillin 0.004 g,

saccharin soluble (sodium saccharinate) 0.007 g.

How to take, the dosage

Adults are prescribed 3 sachets daily for at least 3 days. In acute diarrhea, the daily dose may be doubled at the beginning of treatment.

Dissolve the contents of 1 sachet in half a glass of water before taking it. In order to obtain a homogeneous suspension, gradually pour the powder into the liquid, stirring it evenly. In esophagitis drug Diosmectite is preferably taken after a meal, in other cases – between meals.

Children under 1 year of age are prescribed 1 sachet per day; from 1 to 2 years – 2 sachets per day; over 2 years – 2-3 sachets per day.

The course of treatment is at least 3 days. The contents of the package are dissolved in a baby bottle designed for 50 ml of water, and distributed in several servings during the day, or thoroughly mixed with some semi-liquid product: soup, porridge, compote, puree, baby food.

Interaction

Decreases the rate and degree of absorption of drugs taken at the same time.

Special Instructions

The patient should consult a physician if there is no reduction of symptoms within 3 days after taking the drug, and also in cases when abdominal pain is accompanied by fever or vomiting.

Do not prescribe concomitantly with other drugs. It is recommended to take any other drug 1-1.5 hours before taking Diosmectin.

Contraindications

Hypersensitivity, intestinal obstruction.

Side effects

Contipation, allergic reactions.

Pregnancy use

Possible use of Diosmectite in pregnancy and lactation under indication.
