The herb of thermopsis has expectorant action, having a moderate irritant effect on the mucous membrane receptors of the stomach, reflexively increases the secretion of bronchial glands.
The alkaloids contained in the herb of thermopsis (cytisine, methylcytisine, pachycardine, anagirine, thermopsidine) have a stimulating effect on the respiratory and, in high doses, on the vomiting centers.
Sodium bicarbonate stimulates bronchial gland secretion and helps reduce sputum viscosity.
Pharmacokinetics
The drug components are well absorbed in the gastrointestinal tract. Maximal action occurs 30-60 min after oral administration and lasts for 2-6 h. It is excreted from the body by the kidneys, the mucous membrane of the respiratory tract and bronchial glands.
Indications
Diseases of the respiratory tract accompanied by a cough with difficult to separate sputum (tracheitis, bronchitis) – as part of complex therapy.

Special instructions

Contraindications
Hypersensitivity to the components of the drug, peptic ulcer of the stomach and duodenum in the acute phase, children’s age (up to 12 years).
Side Effects
Allergic reactions are possible; nausea.
Interaction
Adsorbents, astringents and coating agents can reduce the absorption of alkaloids included in the thermopsis herb in the gastrointestinal tract.
Cough tablets should not be used simultaneously with preparations containing codeine and other antitussive drugs, as this may make it more difficult to cough up mucus.
Overdose
Symptoms: nausea, vomiting.
Treatment: gastric lavage, symptomatic.
