The herb of thermopsis has expectorant action, having a moderate irritant effect on the mucous membrane receptors of the stomach, reflexively increases the secretion of bronchial glands.

The alkaloids contained in the herb of thermopsis (cytisine, methylcytisine, pachycardine, anagirine, thermopsidine) have a stimulating effect on the respiratory and, in high doses, on the vomiting centers.

Sodium bicarbonate stimulates bronchial gland secretion and helps reduce sputum viscosity.

Pharmacokinetics

The drug components are well absorbed in the gastrointestinal tract. Maximal action occurs 30-60 min after oral administration and lasts for 2-6 h. It is excreted from the body by the kidneys, the mucous membrane of the respiratory tract and bronchial glands.

Indications

Respiratory tract diseases accompanied by cough with sputum difficult to detach (tracheitis, bronchitis) – in the complex therapy.

Composition

Active ingredients:

Thermopsis lanceolate herb 0.0067 g;

Sodium bicarbonate 0.2500 g.

Excipients:

Potato starch 0.027g;

Talc 0.0054g.

How to take, the dosage

At the mouth, adults are prescribed 1 tablet 3 times a day. The course of treatment is 3-5 days. The highest single dose in terms of thermopsis is 0.1 g (14 tablets).

The highest daily dose in terms of thermopsis is 0.3 g (42 tablets).

Children over 12 years of age take 1 tablet 2-3 times a day.

The course of treatment is 3-5 days. The necessity to repeat the course of treatment is determined by the doctor.

Interaction

Adsorbents, astringents and coagulants may reduce absorption of the alkaloids in the gastrointestinal tract of thermopsis herb.

Cough pills should not be used at the same time as medications containing codeine and other anti-cough medications, as this makes it difficult to cough up sputum.

Special Instructions

The administration of plenty of warm fluids is recommended to improve the liquefaction and separation of sputum.

Cough pills do not affect driving and operating machinery.

Contraindications

High sensitivity to the drug components, gastric and duodenal ulcer in the acute phase, children (under 12 years).

Side effects

Possible allergic reactions; nausea.

Overdose

Symptoms: nausea, vomiting.

Treatment: gastric lavage, symptomatic.
