Glucosamine sulfate and chondroitin sulfate are involved in the biosynthesis of connective tissue and as such can help prevent cartilage breakdown processes and stimulate tissue regeneration.

Glucosamine sulfate

Glucosamine sulfate is one of the components of the synthesis of hyaluronic acid, which is necessary for the formation of proteoglycans of the joint structural matrix. Glucosamine sulfate has also been found to protect articular cartilage from the damaging effects of some non-steroidal anti-inflammatory drugs (NSAIDs). The sulfate ion is necessary for the synthesis of glycosaminoglycans, which are esters of sulfuric acid. Oral administration of exogenous glucosamine stimulates the production of the cartilage matrix and provides nonspecific protection. Glucosamine has some anti-inflammatory activity.

Chondroitin sulfate

Chondroitin sulfate, whether absorbed in its intact form or as short-framed, serves as an additional substrate for the formation of healthy cartilage matrix. Chondroitin sulfate (and its derivatives) promotes the formation of proteoglycans and type II collagen and protects the cartilage matrix from enzymatic degradation (by inhibiting the activity of hyaluronidase) and from the damaging effects of free radicals. Chondroitin sulfate maintains the viscosity of synovial fluid and stimulates cartilage repair mechanisms. Chondroitin sulfate in the treatment of osteoarthritis relieves the symptoms of this disease and reduces the need for NSAIDs.

Absorption

Distribution
After absorption of an oral dose, radioactively labeled glucosamine is first found in plasma components and later penetrates into tissues. The highest concentrations were found in the liver, kidney and articular cartilage. About 30% of the dose taken persists in bone and muscle tissues for a long time.

Elimination
The fraction of glucosamine that is not metabolized or does not bind to plasma proteins is excreted primarily with the urine. Most of the drug found in the feces after oral administration is the unabsorbed fraction. The final half-life of the drug bound to plasma proteins is 68 hours. Chondroitin sulfate

absorption
Chondroitin sulfate once in a dose of 0.8 g (or twice daily in a dose of 0.4 g) when administered orally the concentration of chondroitin sulfate in plasma increases sharply for 24 hours. Absolute bioavailability is 12 %.

Metabolism
Chondroitin sulfate is metabolized by desulfation (after administration of low molecular weight chondroitin sulfate).

Elimination
Chondroitin sulfate is excreted in the urine. The elimination half-life is 310 min.

How to take, the dosage

Orally. Adults take 2 capsules 2-3 times a day. After 60 days of therapy the dose should be gradually reduced depending on the needs of the particular patient.

The course of treatment: 2-3 months (the duration of treatment is determined by the doctor). Repeated course of treatment is possible only after consultation with a doctor.

Interaction

It may increase the effect of anticoagulants and antiaggregants. It increases absorption of tetracyclines, reduces the effect of semisynthetic penicillins. The drug is compatible with NSAIDs, analgesics and glucocorticoids.

Special Instructions

If you have an intolerance to seafood, the likelihood of allergic reactions increases.
