Chymopsin is a proteolytic enzyme preparation that dissolves necrotic tissue without affecting living tissue due to the presence of specific anti-enzymes in it.

How to take, the dosage
Chymopsin is used topically, externally.
For treatment of purulent wounds and bedsores sterile cloths soaked in solution: 25-50 mg of the drug in 10-50 ml of 0.25% procaine solution are applied for 2 to 24 hours (depending on the thickness of pus-necrotic masses) to the wound surface. The dressings are changed every 3-5 days.
In case of third-degree thermal burns a thin layer of the drug at the rate of 1 g per 100 sq. cm of the wound surface is applied on the wound surface, the dressing is applied, moistened with 0,9% NaCl solution or 0,25% procaine solution; a waterproof bandage is put on. The dressing is changed every 24 hours. During each change of dressing remove easily detachable areas of necrotic tissue. For wounds covered by a thick scab, it is cut before the dressing is applied.
In case of suppurative bronchopulmonary diseases we use inhalation of 25-30 mg of the drug diluted in 5 ml of distilled water 1-3 times a day. The solution may also be administered through bronchoscope, endotracheal tube, tracheostomy. Antibiotics and bronchodilators can be added to the solution.
To treat ulcers, corneal burns and keratitis, it is used in the form of eye baths in 1:500 solution daily, for 2-3 days or it is injected by 2 drops of 0.25% solution, 4 times a day, for 1-2 days. Lacrimal duct obstruction and eyelid skin wounds: the lacrimal ducts are washed or the wounds are irrigated with 1% solution. The solutions are prepared ex tempore.
In case of chronic rhinitis the drug is injected or irrigated with solution (5 mg in 5 ml of 0.9% NaCl solution) of the nasal cavity 2-3 times a day.
In chronic purulent otitis media complicated with cholesteatoma, after washing out the cavity with 0.9% NaCl solution the 0.5% solution of the drug (diluted in 0.9% NaCl solution) is injected into the cavity 2-3 times a day for 20-30 minutes.
Special Instructions
Before using the drug, persons prone to allergic reactions should be given a single therapeutic dose of antihistamines (subcutaneously or intramuscularly).
In the hours after inhalation the patient should cough up the sputum thoroughly or it should be removed with suction.
Contraindications
Chronic heart failure degree II-III, malignant neoplasms, pulmonary emphysema with respiratory failure, pulmonary tuberculosis (open form), liver dystrophy and cirrhosis, viral hepatitis, pancreatitis, hemorrhagic diathesis.
Do not inject into bleeding cavities, apply to ulcerated surfaces of malignant tumors.
With caution.
Empyema of the pleura of tuberculous etiology (resorption of the exudate may contribute to the development of bronchopleural fistula).
Side effects
Allergic reactions may occur.
After inhalation administration: occasionally hoarseness of voice, irritation of the mucous membranes of the respiratory tract, quickly resolving subfebrile fever.
In ophthalmology: irritation and swelling of the conjunctiva may occur; in these cases it is recommended to decrease the concentration of the drug used.
