Carbopect is a combined enterosorbent of wide spectrum of action with enterosorptive, detoxifying and antidiarrheal action.

It belongs to the group of polyvalent, physico-chemical antidotes with high surface activity.

It adsorbs poisons and toxins from gastro-intestinal tract (GIT) before their absorption, including alkaloids, glycosides, barbiturates and other sleeping pills and drugs, salts of heavy metals, toxins of bacterial, plant and animal origin, phenol and hydrocyanic acid derivatives, sulfonamides and gases.

The drug also adsorbs excess of some products of metabolism – bilirubin, urea, cholesterol, as well as endogenous metabolites responsible for the development of endogenous toxicosis.

It weakly adsorbs acids and alkalis (including salts of iron, cyanide, melathion, methanol, ethylene glycol). Does not cause reduction of motor activity (pectin).

Pharmacokinetics

It is not absorbed, not broken down, excreted completely through the GI tract within 24 hours.

Indications

as a detoxifying agent for exogenous and endogenous intoxications of various origins; food toxic infections, salmonellosis, dysentery, in complex treatment;
poisoning with drugs (psychotropic, sleeping pills, narcotic drugs and others), alkaloids, salts of heavy metals and other poisons;
diseases of the gastrointestinal tract, accompanied by dyspepsia, flatulence;
food and drug allergies;
hyperbilirubinemia (viral hepatitis and other jaundices) and hyperazotemia (renal failure);
to reduce gas formation in the intestines before ultrasound and x-ray examination;
in order to prevent chronic intoxication in hazardous industries.

Special instructions

It is recommended to store in a dry place, away from substances that release gases or vapors into the atmosphere. Storage in air (especially in a humid environment) reduces sorption capacity.

Contraindications

individual intolerance to the drug Carbopect.
ulcerative lesions of the gastrointestinal tract (including peptic ulcer of the stomach and duodenum,
nonspecific ulcerative colitis),
bleeding from the gastrointestinal tract,
intestinal atony.

Side Effects

dyspepsia;
with long-term use, decreased absorption of vitamins, calcium and other nutrients from the gastrointestinal tract;
dark coloration of stool.

Interaction

Carbopect capsules reduce the effectiveness of medications taken orally at the same time.
