An antihypertensive agent, angiotensin II receptor antagonist. It blocks AT1-receptors, which leads to reduction of biological effects of angiotensin II (mediated by this type of receptors), including vasoconstrictor effect, stimulating effect on aldosterone release, regulation of salt and water homeostasis and stimulation of cell growth.
The antihypertensive effect is caused by lowering PPS without reflex elevation of HR.
It does not inhibit ACE. Does not interact with or block other hormone receptors or ion channels important to the regulation of cardiovascular function.

Composition
How to take, the dosage
It is taken orally once a day. The initial dose is 4 mg, the maintenance dose is 8 mg, the maximum dose is 16 mg.
In patients with hepatic and/or renal dysfunction the initial dose is 2 mg.
Interaction
In concomitant use with potassium preparations, potassium-saving diuretics, dietary supplements containing potassium, or potassium salt substitutes, hyperkalemia may occur.
Drugs that affect the RAAS can increase urea and creatinine concentrations in the blood in patients with bilateral renal artery stenosis or artery of the only kidney. Concomitant use of diuretics and other hypotensive agents increases the risk of arterial hypotension.
Candesartan increases serum lithium concentrations and increases the risk of toxic reactions.
Special Instructions
It is not recommended for use in patients with severe renal insufficiency (CKR less than 15 ml/min), with primary hyperaldosteronism.
Candesartan treatment should be preceded by correction of water-electrolyte balance disorders.
In patients with renal insufficiency, plasma potassium and creatinine levels should be monitored periodically.
Patients with hemodynamic disorders due to aortic or mitral stenosis, with obstructive hypertrophic cardiomyopathy should be used with caution.
Patients with ischemic cardiopathy, ischemic cerebrovascular disease should be aware that acute arterial hypotension can lead to myocardial infarction or stroke.
Influence on driving and operating ability
When using in patients engaged in potentially hazardous activities (including driving), be aware that candesartan may cause dizziness and weakness.
