Camiren has hypotensive, vasodilatory, hypolipidemic, antispasmodic effects. It selectively blocks postsynaptic alpha1-adrenoreceptors.
Limits ROS, total cholesterol, LDL and triglyceride levels and increases HDL content in blood serum. Prevents the development of atherosclerosis and CHD, and inhibits platelet aggregation.
Camiren reduces the mass of the left ventricle (with prolonged treatment).
Prevent contraction of the smooth muscles of the upper urethra and muscles of the prostate, helps to ease urination and eliminate the dysuric symptoms accompanying benign prostatic hyperplasia.
Indications
Mild to moderate arterial hypertension (monotherapy or in combination with other antihypertensive drugs), benign prostatic hyperplasia (symptomatic treatment).
Active ingredient
Composition
1 tablet contains doxazosin 4 mg.
How to take, the dosage
Camiren is taken orally, regardless of meals.
Arterial hypertension and benign prostatic hyperplasia in patients with arterial hypertension: the initial dose (in the evening before bedtime) is 1 mg daily with gradual increase to 2, 4 and 8 mg once daily at intervals of 1-2 weeks. Usual daily dose of Camiren is 2-8 mg, maximum – 16 mg.
Benign prostatic hyperplasia in patients with normal blood pressure: initial dose (in the evening before bedtime)
1 mg/day with gradual increase to 2, 4 and 8 mg once daily (interval 1-2 weeks). The average daily dose is 2-4 mg, the maximum dose is 8 mg.
Special Instructions
Special caution should be exercised when prescribing this drug to patients with impaired liver function, especially in cases when concomitant use of drugs that may adversely affect liver function. In case of liver function abnormalities the drug should be immediately discontinued.
In order to prevent orthostatic reactions, patients should avoid sudden and abrupt changes of body position (transition from “lying” to “standing” position).
The intake of alcohol can increase unwanted reactions.
The safety and effectiveness of doxazosin in children has not been established, so it is not recommended to prescribe the drug in children.
The effect of “first” administration of the drug is particularly pronounced with prior diuretic therapy and a sodium-restricted diet.
Before starting therapy, prostate cancer must be excluded.
Due to the fact that doxazosin is able to cause orthostatic reactions at the beginning of treatment or during dose escalation, patients should refrain from all potentially dangerous activities, particularly from driving motor vehicles and other vehicles and mechanisms.
Contraindications
Hypersensitivity, including hypersensitivity to other quinazoline derivatives (prazosin, terazosin) or to other components of Camiren, GI or esophageal obstruction, any degree of GI narrowing, pediatric age.
Side effects
Arterial hypertension
In clinical studies, orthostatic hypotension, which in rare cases may lead to fainting, has been observed most frequently, especially at the beginning of treatment.
General reactions: asthenia, fatigue, malaise.
Cardiovascular system: edema, fainting.
By eliminating the alpha-adrenergic stimulating effects of epinephrine, may lead to tachycardia and arterial hypotension.
Overdose
Symptoms: excessive arterial hypotension, dizziness, fainting is possible.
Treatment: in most cases, dose reduction or temporary interruption of therapy is sufficient. The patient should be placed in a supine position with a low headboard and slightly elevated legs. Inducing vomiting is not recommended.
In order to eliminate the unabsorbed drug from the gastrointestinal tract, gastric lavage should be performed, and activated charcoal and laxatives should be prescribed.
α-adrenoreceptor agonists (e.g., noradrenaline) are indicated. Hemodialysis is ineffective (because doxazosin is almost completely bound to plasma proteins).
Pregnancy use
Pregnant women may prescribe the drug only for vital signs when the benefit to the mother exceeds the potential risk to the fetus/infant. The safety of the drug in breastfed children has not been established; therefore, breastfeeding mothers are advised to stop breastfeeding during treatment with doxazosin.
