Pharmacotherapeutic group
Mucolytic expectorant.
TAC code

Pharmacological properties
Pharmacodynamics
Mucolytic and expectorant action is caused by activation of sialic transferase – enzyme of the mucous membrane of the bronchi. Normalizes
the quantitative ratio of acidic and neutral sialomucin bronchial secretion, restores the viscosity and elasticity of mucus. Contributes to the regeneration
of the mucous membrane, normalizes its structure, activates the ciliated epithelium. Restores the secretion of immunologically active IgA (specific protection) and the number of sulfhydryl groups of mucus components (nonspecific protection), improves mucociliary clearance.
Pharmacokinetics
Absorption is fast and almost complete. Bioavailability is low (less than 10% of the dose taken). Time of maximum concentration achievement in blood and mucous membranes is 1.5-2 hours; therapeutic concentration is retained in blood during 8 hours. It is retained for the longest time in the blood, liver and middle ear. It is accumulated in high concentrations in bronchial secretion (17.5% of the administered dose).
Metabolized in the liver (has the effect of “first passage” through the liver). Excreted by the kidneys (60-90% unchanged, the rest – as metabolites). The elimination half-life is 2-3.15 hours. Complete excretion occurs after 3 days.
