BioGaia® ORS – a combination of salts for oral rehydration, zinc and probiotics – is recommended as a food supplement for restoration of water and electrolyte balance as well as an additional source of live lactic acid bacteria Lactobacillus reuteri Protectis.

It is recommended for frequent, liquid stools and other conditions accompanied with dehydration (dehydration). The solution is quickly absorbed, provides replenishment of fluid and electrolyte loss during dehydration caused by vomiting and diarrhea and helps restore the natural microflora of the gastrointestinal tract and improves digestion.

Zinc is recommended by the WHO and the UN Children’s Fund (UNICEF) as a necessary component of the oral rehydration solution.
Zinc promotes:

• increased absorption of water and electrolytes in the intestine,
• accelerates intestinal epithelial regeneration,
• increased local immunity.

Lactobacillus reuteri Protectis DSM 17938 contribute to the inhibition of the growth of pathogenic microorganisms in the digestive tract by releasing antimicrobial compounds unique to L. reuteri Protectis DSM 17938 – reitrocyclin and reuterin as well as bacteriocins and organic acids (lactic, acetic acid).

Composition

Lactobacillus reuteri DSM 17938 (L. reuteri Protectis™) 109 CFU,

rehydrating components – glucose 3.80 g,

trisodium citrate 0.87 g,

Potassium chloride (E508) 0.38 g,

Sodium chloride 0.37 g,

Zinc sulfate 0.004 g.

Lactobacillus reuteri DSM 17938 1×109 CFU, protein <0.1 g, fat <0.1 g, carbohydrates 3.8 g, calories 15 kcal/60 kJ.

How to take, the dosage

Dissolve 1 sachet in 250 ml of chilled boiled water. Stir well until completely dissolved. It is important to use not less than the specified amount of water to avoid the intake of excess salts in the child’s body.

WARNING: Use water of guaranteed safety and quality to prepare the product. Unless otherwise prescribed by your doctor, adhere to the following dosing recommendations.

The first period of administration is 4-6 hours.AgeThe volume of the solution in the first 4-6 hours*, ml0 – 2 years old250-750 from 2 years old and adults from 1000* The volume of the solution is calculated in the dosage of 50-100 ml/kg of body weight.

The maximum dose of the solution should not exceed 4000 ml per day.
In case of vomiting, apply the solution frequently and in small portions. For a child, calculate the amount of solution needed in an hour and give 10-15 ml every 5-10 minutes with a dropper or teaspoon.

The second stage of intake is 50-100 ml after each episode of liquid stools, but not less than 50 ml/kg of body weight per day until symptoms stop.
BioGaia® ORS has a neutral taste which makes it easy to use in small children. To make the solution taste better it is possible to add 0,5 teaspoon of fruit juice per 250 ml solution portion.

The ready solution retains its properties for 3 hours at room temperature or 6 hours in the refrigerator.

Interaction

Can be used simultaneously with antibiotics and other medicines.

Contraindications

Hypersensitivity, impaired kidney function, diabetes mellitus.

If the child is excessively tired, not thirsty, or not urinating, always consult a doctor.
