Pharmgroup:
A beta-adrenoblocker antiglaucoma agent.
Pharmic action:
A selective beta1-adrenoblocker without its own SMA.
Limits intraocular pressure, resorptive effect is minimal; does not cause miosis, accommodation spasm due to decreased aqueous humor production, hemeralopia.
The time of the effect – 1-2 hours, duration – 24 hours.
Pharmacokinetics:
May be subject to systemic absorption. Binding with plasma proteins is 50%. T1/2 – 14-22 h. It is excreted by kidneys (15% unchanged).
Permeability through the GEB and the placental barrier is low; secretion with breast milk is insignificant.
Indications
Open-angle glaucoma, intraocular hypertension, condition after laser trabeculoplasty, long-term hypotensive therapy after surgical ophthalmic intervention.
Active ingredient
How to take, the dosage
Topically. Injected into the conjunctival sac 1 drop. Twice a day;
In the first month treatment is carried out under control of intraocular pressure.
Interaction
In concomitant use of eye drops and oral beta-adrenoblockers, there is a risk of additive effects from both intraocular pressure and the systemic effects of beta-adrenoblockers.
Catecholamine depotting drugs (reserpine) increase the risk of hypotension and/or bradycardia.
Special Instructions
When used topically, side effects similar to those of systemic administration may occur. Contact lenses should not be worn while using the drug.
Does not affect pupil size, in closed-angle glaucoma use only in combination with myotics.
If a patient is switched to betaxolol after treatment with several anti-glaucoma drugs, the latter are withdrawn gradually.
In pregnancy and lactation, use if the benefit exceeds the risk of side effects.
At the time of treatment, caution should be exercised while driving vehicles and engaging in other potentially hazardous activities requiring increased concentration and quick psychomotor reactions.
Contraindications
Hypersensitivity, sinus bradycardia, II-III stage AV blockade, decompensated CHF.
With caution.
Diabetes mellitus, thyrotoxicosis, concomitant use of oral beta-adrenoblockers, Raynaud’s syndrome, pheochromocytoma,
pregnancy, lactation, pediatric age (effectiveness and safety are not defined).
Side effects
Local: allergic reactions, eye discomfort, lacrimation, skin hyperemia, conjunctival itching, keratitis, anisocoria, photophobia.
Systemic: insomnia, depressive neurosis.
