Antiseptic and disinfectant.
Released from the complex with PVP, on contact with skin and mucous membranes, iodine forms iodamines with bacterial proteins, coagulates them and causes the death of microorganisms.
It has rapid bactericidal effect on Gram-positive and Gram-negative bacteria (except for M. tuberculosis). It is effective against fungi, viruses and protozoa.

How to take, the dosage
The ointment is applied in a thin layer to the affected areas several times a day.
Interaction
Incompatible with other antiseptics, especially those containing alkalis, enzymes and mercury.
The bactericidal activity may be reduced in the presence of blood, but bactericidal activity may be increased with increasing concentrations of the drug.
Special Instructions
In case of thyroid dysfunction the use of the drug is possible only under close medical supervision.
The use of the drug in infants is possible only in case of extreme necessity, after examination of thyroid function.
Cautious use should be used with regular use on damaged skin in patients with chronic renal insufficiency.
A stained film forms at the site of application and persists until all of the active iodine is released, which means that the drug is discontinued. The staining on the skin and tissues is easily washed off with water.
Do not use if bitten by insects, pets or wild animals.

Contraindications
With caution:pregnancy and lactation, chronic renal failure.
Side effects
Possible: local manifestation of an allergic reaction to iodine (itching, hyperemia), which requires withdrawal of the drug.
Pregnancy use
Betadine is not recommended for use from the 3rd month of pregnancy and during lactation.
If therapy is necessary, the doctor decides on the prescription of the drug individually.
Thyroid function should be monitored in newborns and infants whose mothers have used Betadine.
