Contraceptive drug for topical use. It has spermatocidal action, as well as antiseptic, antifungal, antiprotozoal action, inactivates Herpes simplex virus.
The drug is active against Gram-positive bacteria (including Staphylococcus spp, Streptococcus spp.); Gram-negative bacteria (including Escherichia coli, Pseudomonas aeruginosa, Neisseria gonorrhoeae, Proteus spp., Klebsiella spp.); anaerobic bacteria, fungi and molds.
It is also active against strains of bacteria resistant to antibiotics and other chemotherapeutic drugs; inhibits staphylococcal plasmocoagulase and hyaluronidase.
The spermatocidal effect of the drug is due to the ability to damage the membranes of sperm cells (first the flagella, then the head), which makes it impossible for the damaged sperm cell to fertilize the egg. The effect develops 5 minutes after the insertion of the vaginal suppository.
It is active in the prevention of sexually transmitted diseases (including gonorrhea, chlamydia, trichomoniasis). It does not affect the normal vaginal microflora (including bacillus Dederlein) and the hormonal cycle.
