Belosalik, ointment 15 g

Combination drug, the action of which is due to its constituent components; has anti-inflammatory, anti-edema, anti-allergic, vasoconstrictor, antiproliferative, immunosuppressive, keratolytic, antimicrobial, antifungal and local hypothermic effect.

Inhibits release of inflammatory mediators, prevents edge accumulation of neutrophils, decreases inflammatory exudate and cytokines production, decreases macrophages migration resulting in reduction of infiltration and granulation processes.

Owing to the presence of salicylic acid, it softens the skin, eliminates stratum corneum and promotes deeper penetration of GCS.

The ointment is water-repellent and forms a protective film to protect the skin from external moisture and is most suitable for patients with dry and fragile skin.

The lotion (skimmed solution) is easy to apply to the surface of the skin, does not stick or dry out the hair, leaves no visible residue and has a cooling effect on the skin.

Directions for use

Externally. The drug is applied thinly to the affected areas of the skin twice a day (in the morning and at night). In some patients the maintenance effect can be achieved by less frequent applications. The course of treatment should not exceed 3 weeks.

In children 2 to 12 years of age, apply in thin layers 1 or 2 times a day for no more than 5 days.

The duration, specifics of the treatment regimen, repeated courses of treatment should be agreed with the doctor.

The drug should only be used according to the route of administration and in the doses specified in the instructions for use. If necessary, consult a physician before using the drug.

Special Instructions

Avoid contact with eyes and do not apply to skin near eyes or on mucous membranes.

Long-term use on the face is not recommended; rosacea-type dermatitis, perioral dermatitis, skin atrophy and acne may develop; avoid use in the anogenital area.

The use of the ointment in children should be as short as possible (danger of systemic absorption of a proportionally greater amount of the active ingredients due to the predominance of the skin area over the body weight and insufficient maturity of the epidermis).

In case of signs of allergic reactions or local irritation, treatment should be discontinued.

Contraindications

Hypersensitivity to betamethasone, salicylic acid or any of the excipients of the drug.

Skin tuberculosis, cutaneous manifestations of syphilis, varicella, viral skin infections, postvaccination skin reactions, open wounds, trophic ulcers, rosacea, acne vulgaris, children under 6 months of age.

With caution:
Liver failure, childhood, prolonged therapy, especially with occlusive dressings.

Side effects

Burning, irritation, dryness, hypopigmentation, skin itching, folliculitis, hypertrichosis, acne.

In case of use of occlusive dressings – skin maceration, stricture, skin atrophy, secondary infection, sweating.

Long-term use – skin atrophy, local hirsutism, telangiectasia, purpura, hypopigmentation, hypertrichosis.

. When applied to large surfaces – systemic side effects of GCS (growth retardation, Icenko-Cushing’s syndrome, benign increase in intracranial pressure after treatment, hyperglycemia, glucosuria, hypokalemia, increased BP) or salicylates (pallor, increased fatigue, drowsiness, hyperventilation with tachypnea, nausea, vomiting, hearing loss, confusion).

Overdose

In prolonged continuous use of the combination of betamethasone and salicylic acid, especially in children, on extensive skin surfaces, when applied to skin with compromised integrity or when used under an occlusive dressing, increased absorption of active components and manifestation of systemic effects (secondary adrenal insufficiency, hypercorticism, Cushing’s syndrome) cannot be excluded.

In this case, withdrawal of the drug and symptomatic therapy are recommended.

Pregnancy use

Topical use of Belosalik® in pregnant women is allowed when the expected benefit to the mother outweighs the risk to the fetus. In such cases, the use of the drug should be of short duration and limited to small areas of the skin.

When breastfeeding, the use of Belosalik® is possible in strict indications, but the drug must not be applied to the mammary gland skin before breastfeeding.
