Pharmacodynamics:

The antiseptic agent is a 10% iodine-polyvinylpyrrolidone solution (iodine complex with polyvinylpyrrolidone). It contains 1% active iodine.

The drug has a wide range of antimicrobial action. It has antiseptic disinfectant, antifungal and antiprotozoal action. It blocks amino groups of cellular proteins.

Polyvinylpyrrolidone iodine refers to iodophores in which iodine is bound and gradually and evenly released upon contact with skin and mucous membranes, providing bactericidal action on microorganisms.

Aquazan partially binds toxic products of microbial and tissue decay and has dehydrating effect on tissues due to sorption properties of povidone.

In the place of application of the drug a thin colored layer remains until all amount of active iodine is released from the complex; after that the action of the drug stops.

The product has no local irritant effect because it contains iodine in the form of a complex.

Indications

– Treatment and prevention of infection of wounds with abrasions burns trophic ulcers decubitus;

– Treatment of pyoderma acne infectious dermatitis dermatomycosis skin reaction after insect bites;

– Treatment of mucous membranes including local treatment of gynecologic diseases and in obstetrical practice;

– For mouth and throat rinses for nasopharynx infections and oral diseases (stomatitis periodontitis, etc.).

– treatment of skin before and after operations or manipulations involving skin disorders (injections puncture biopsy blood collection catheterization, etc.).

Hygienic treatment of patients;

Pre- and postoperative hand treatment of surgical personnel; hygienic treatment of hands when caring for infectious patients; treatment of instruments and patient care items.

How to take, the dosage

The drug is used externally and topically. Depending on the area of application, Aquazan is used both without dilution and in the form of aqueous solutions in dilution 1:2 1:10 or 1:100.

For the treatment of minor wounds, burns, etc. Aquazan is used undiluted by dabbing the surface or as a wet overlay.

For disinfection of healthy areas of the skin before blood sampling, biopsy, etc. the undiluted product is used with an exposure time of 1-2 minutes.

For disinfection of the skin and mucous membranes before operations and invasive interventions (including in obstetrical and gynecological practice) the operating field is treated with the undiluted product twice with 2 minutes exposure.

To treat the hands of surgical personnel, 5 ml of the undiluted product is rubbed up to the elbow for 5 minutes and then thoroughly rinsed. The procedure is repeated twice.

For the treatment of skin and mucous membrane infections the drug is used undiluted by treating the surface for 1-2 minutes.

The mouth and throat rinse with undiluted or diluted (5 ml per 1/2 cup of water) of the drug.

For hygienic treatment of a patient before surgery during so-called “disinfecting bath” Aquazan is used in dilution of 1:100 by dabbing the patient with a sponge dipped in the solution.

For prevention and treatment of complications after invasive manipulations in the treatment of septic wounds the drug is used without dilution or in dilution 1:2 applied to the surface by smearing or in the form of a wet pad.

In the treatment of burns, depending on the condition of the wound, Akvazan is used without dilution or diluted 1:10. Dressing material is impregnated with undiluted drug.

For the treatment of bacterial or fungal dermatitis Aquazan is used in dilution of 1:10.

Aquazan is recommended for home treatment of healthy areas of the skin or for treatment of minor wounds, scratches, burns and bacterial and fungal skin lesions in undiluted form.

Dilution of Aquazan should be carried out immediately before use. Diluted solution of Aquazan in 1:2 and 1:10 ratio is stored for not more than 10 days in 1:100 ratio for not more than 3 days.

Special Instructions

Contact of the drug to the eyes should be avoided.

Light and temperatures above 40°C accelerate reduction of the drug activity.

The drug solution should have a dark brown color.

The discoloration of the solution indicates destruction of the polyvinylpyrrolidone-iodine complex and decreased effectiveness of the drug.

The bactericidal effect of the drug may decrease in the presence of blood.

Contraindications

– Hypersensitivity to iodine;

– thyrotoxicosis;

– thyroid adenoma;

– Duhring’s dermatitis herpetiformis;

– concomitant use of radioactive iodine;

– period of newborn especially in premature infants.

In chronic renal failure of pregnancy (II-III trimester) during lactation.
