Bicarbonate neutralizes free hydrochloric acid in the stomach, reducing the likelihood of NSAID gastropathy.

Indications

Headache,

Pharmacological effect

Special instructions

Alka-Seltzer should be used with caution in patients with bronchial asthma, allergies, as well as in patients with hypersensitivity to painkillers and anti-inflammatory drugs.

Composition

1 effervescent tablet contains:

acetylsalicylic acid 325 mg
sodium bicarbonate 1625 mg
citric acid 965 mg.

Pregnancy

It is advisable to prescribe Alka-Seltzer to children and adolescents only if other drugs are ineffective. Alka-Seltzer and Alka-Seltzer are contraindicated during pregnancy.

During breastfeeding, when taken in medium doses, interruption of breastfeeding is usually not required.

If you regularly take high doses of Alka-Seltzer, you should consider stopping breastfeeding.

Contraindications

Chronic or recurring symptoms of nausea, stomach pain
renal dysfunction
increased tendency to bleed
bronchial asthma.

Side Effects

Nausea, lack of appetite, stomach pain, gastrointestinal bleeding
allergic reactions
decrease in platelets in the blood.

Interaction

Reduces the effect of anti-gout drugs (including side effects), enhances the effect of anticoagulants and oral hypoglycemic drugs, NSAIDs, side effects of methotrexate.

Overdose

Symptoms

Moderate overdose: nausea, vomiting, tinnitus, hearing loss, headache, dizziness and confusion. These symptoms disappear when the dose of the drug is reduced.

Severe overdose: fever, hyperventilation, ketosis, respiratory alkalosis, metabolic acidosis, coma, cardiogenic shock, respiratory failure, severe hypoglycemia.

Treatment:

hospitalization, lavage, activated charcoal, monitoring of acid-base balance, alkaline diuresis in order to obtain a urine pH between 7.5-8 (forced alkaline diuresis is considered achieved if the concentration of salicylates in plasma is more than 500 mg/l (3.6 mmol/l) in adults or 300 mg/l (2.2 mmol/l) in children), hemodialysis, fluid replacement, symptomatic therapy.
