Alka-Seltzer has analgesic, anti-inflammatory, antipyretic, anti-aggregation action.

Inactivates cyclooxygenase, disrupts the synthesis of PG, prostacyclins and thromboxane.

Bicarbonate neutralizes free hydrochloric acid in the stomach, reducing the likelihood of NSAID gastropathy.

Indications

Composition

1 effervescent tablet contains:

acetylsalicylic acid 325 mg
sodium bicarbonate 1625 mg
citric acid 965 mg.

How to take, the dosage

Interaction

Reduces the effect of antipodagric agents (including side effects), increases the effect of anticoagulants and oral hypoglycemic drugs, NSAIDs, the side effect of methotrexate.

Special Instructions

Alka-Seltzer should be used with caution in patients with bronchial asthma, allergies, and patients with hypersensitivity to analgesic and anti-inflammatory drugs.

Overdose

Symptoms

Moderate overdose: nausea, vomiting, tinnitus, hearing loss, headache, dizziness, and confusion. These symptoms go away when the dose of the drug is reduced.

Severe overdose: fever, hyperventilation, ketosis, respiratory alkalosis, metabolic acidosis, coma, cardiogenic shock, respiratory failure, severe hypoglycemia.

Treatment:

. Hospitalization, lavage, administration of activated charcoal, monitoring of acid-alkaline balance, alkaline diuresis to obtain urine pH between 7.5-8 (forced alkaline diuresis is considered achieved if plasma salicylate concentration is more than 500 mg/L (3.6 mmol/L) in adults or 300 mg/L (2.2 mmol/L) in children), hemodialysis, fluid loss compensation, symptomatic therapy.

Pregnancy use

In children and adolescents it is advisable to prescribe Alka-Seltzer only when other drugs are ineffective. Alka-Seltzer in Alka-Seltzero is contraindicated during pregnancy.

Breastfeeding interruption of breastfeeding is usually not necessary when taken in medium doses.

If high doses of Alka-Seltzer are taken regularly, discontinuation of breastfeeding should be considered.
