Acetylcysteine is used to treat respiratory diseases accompanied by the formation of viscous sputum:
– acute and chronic bronchitis;
– obstructive bronchitis;

Active ingredient
Composition
1 package dosage of 100 mg contains:

sucrose 2863.5 mg.
1 200 mg dosage packet contains:
active ingredient:
acetylcysteine 200 mg

Strawberry flavoring 9 mg,
ascorbic acid 25 mg,
aspartame 20 mg,
sucrose 2746 mg.
1 package dosage of 600 mg contains:
active ingredient:
acetylcysteine 600 mg
excipients:
Strawberry flavoring 9 mg,
ascorbic acid 75 mg,
aspartame 30 mg,
sucrose 2286 mg.
How to take, the dosage
Ingestion. The pellets should be dissolved in water at room temperature and taken after meals.
Pellets for preparation of oral solution 100 mg, 200 mg.
In the absence of other prescriptions, the following dosages are recommended:
Mucolytic therapy.
Adults and adolescents over 14 years of age: it is recommended to take 2 sachets of Acetylcysteine Canon 100 mg or 1 sachet of Acetylcysteine Canon 200 mg 2-3 times a day (400-600 mg per day).
In children aged 6 to 14 years: it is recommended to take 1 sachet 3 times a day or 2 sachets 2 times a day of Acetylcysteine Canon 100 mg (300-400 mg per day). Acetylcysteine Canon 200 mg should be taken in 1/2 sachet 3 times a day or 1 sachet 2 times a day (300-400 mg per day).
In children aged 2 to 6 years: 1 sachet of Acetylcysteine Canon 100 mg 2-3 times daily (200-300 mg per day) is recommended.
Mucoviscidosis.
In children over 6 years of age: it is recommended that 2 sachets of Acetylcysteine Canon 100 mg or 1 sachet of Acetylcysteine Canon 200 mg 3 times daily (600 mg per day).
In children aged 2 to 6 years: it is recommended to take 1 sachet of Acetylcysteine Canon 100 mg 4 times a day (400 mg per day). In patients with cystic fibrosis and body weight over 30 kg, if necessary, it is possible to increase the dose to 800 mg of acetylcysteine per day.
Additional fluid intake increases the mucolytic effect of the drug. In short-term colds the duration of therapy is 5-7 days. In long-term illnesses, the duration of therapy is determined by the attending physician. In chronic bronchitis and cystic fibrosis the drug should be taken for a longer time to achieve a preventive effect in infections.
Interaction
The simultaneous use of acetylcysteine and cough suppressants may result in mucus congestion due to suppression of the cough reflex. Therefore, such combinations should be chosen with caution.
Pharmaceutically incompatible with antibiotics (penicillins, cephalosporins, erythromycin, tetracycline and amphotericin B) and proteolytic enzymes.
It reduces absorption of penicillins, cephalosporins, tetracycline (they should not be taken earlier than 2 hours after oral administration of acetylcysteine).
The simultaneous use of acetylcysteine and nitroglycerin may increase the vasodilator effect of the latter.
In contact with metals, rubber, sulfides with a characteristic odor are formed.
Special Instructions
When treating patients with diabetes it is necessary to keep in mind that the drug contains sucrose (1 sachet of Acetylcysteine Canon 600 mg corresponds to 0.19 IU, 200 mg – 0.23 IU, 100 mg – 0.24 IU).
When working with the drug it is necessary to use glassware, avoid contact with metals, rubber, oxygen, easily oxidizing substances.
In the use of acetylcysteine very rarely cases of severe allergic reactions such as Stevens-Johnson syndrome, toxic epidermal necrolysis (Lyell’s syndrome) have been reported. In case of changes of the skin and mucous membranes it is necessary to consult a physician immediately, the drug should be discontinued.
The drug should not be taken immediately before going to bed (it is recommended to take the drug before 6 p.m.).
Contraindications
– Hypersensitivity to acetylcysteine and other components of the drug;
– Sucrose/isomaltase deficiency, fructose intolerance, glucose-galactose malabsorption;
– Phenylketonuria;
– Childhood under 14 years of age (for 600 mg dosage), childhood under 6 years of age (for 200 mg dosage), childhood under 2 years of age (for 100 mg dosage);
– Pregnancy and breastfeeding.
With caution
Bronchial asthma, hepatic and/or renal insufficiency, adrenal diseases, esophageal varices, arterial hypertension, susceptibility to pulmonary bleeding, hemoptysis, stomach and duodenal ulcer in anamnesis, intolerance to histamine (long-term use of the drug should be avoided, since acetylcystein is not recommended.(long-term use of the drug should be avoided because acetylcysteine affects histamine metabolism and may lead to the occurrence of intolerance symptoms, such as headache, vasomotor rhinitis, itching).
Side effects
According to the World Health Organization (WHO), adverse effects are classified according to their frequency of development as follows: Very common (â¥1/10); common (â¥1/100 and <1/10); infrequent (â¥1/1000 and <1/100); rare (â¥1/10,000 and <1/1000); very rare (<1/10000); frequency unknown (incidence of events cannot be determined from available data).
Allergic reactions: infrequent – skin itching, rash, exanthema, urticaria, angioedema, decreased blood pressure, tachycardia; very rare – anaphylactic reactions up to anaphylactic shock, Stevens-Johnson syndrome, toxic epidermal necrolysis (Lyell syndrome).
Nervous system disorders: very rare – headache.
Cardiovascular system disorders: very rare – decreased blood pressure, increased heart rate (tachycardia).
Respiratory system disorders: rarely – shortness of breath, bronchospasm (especially in patients with bronchial hyperresponsiveness in bronchial asthma).
Gastrointestinal disorders: infrequent – stomatitis, abdominal pain, nausea, vomiting, diarrhea, heartburn, dyspepsia.
Sensory organs: infrequent – tinnitus.
Other: very rare – fever, single reports of bleeding due to hypersensitivity reactions, decreased platelet aggregation.
Overdose
Symptoms: Diarrhea, vomiting, stomach pain, heartburn and nausea have been observed in case of erroneous or deliberate overdose. Severe and life-threatening side effects have not been observed to date.
Treatment: Symptomatic.
