Pharmacological group – hormones and their antagonists.

Oxytocin is a synthetic polypeptide analogue of the hormone of the posterior pituitary lobe. It has a stimulating effect on the smooth muscles of the uterus, especially at the end of pregnancy, as well as during labor.
Oxytocin stimulates milk secretion by increasing prolactin production by the anterior pituitary lobe.

Reduces myoepithelial cells around mammary gland alveoli, stimulates milk flow into large ducts or sinuses, contributing to increased milk secretion. It has practically no vasoconstrictor and antidiuretic effect (only in high doses), does not cause contraction of the bladder and intestinal muscles. The effect comes in 1-2 minutes after intramuscular and subcutaneous administration and lasts 20-30 minutes; after intravenous injection – in 0,5-1 minutes.

According to the classification of State Standard 12.1.007-76 the preparation belongs to substances of the 4th class of hazard – low-hazardous substances.
