Antimicrobial shampoo with chlorhexidine 4% is used for dogs and cats for medical and preventive purposes against bacterial (superficial and deep pio-dermatitis), fungal (malasseziosis and dermatophytosis), mixed and atopic skin lesions and their derivatives.

Antimicrobial shampoo with chlorhexidine 4% belongs to the antiseptic medicines. Chlorhexidine bigluconate contained in the product is a dichlorinated derivative of biguanide, has a strong antimicrobial effect, is active against vegetative forms of gram-negative and gram-positive bacteria, as well as yeasts, dermatophytes and lipophilic viruses. It acts on bacterial spores only at elevated temperature. The mechanism of action of chlorhexidine is to interact with phosphate groups on the surface of the bacterial cell, resulting in a shift in osmotic equilibrium, disturbing the integrity and death of the cell.
After washing the shampoo the residual bactericidal effect on the skin lasts up to 24 hours.
