Pharmacological Properties
The drug belongs to the non-steroidal anti-inflammatory drugs (NSAIDs). It has analgesic and anti-inflammatory effects. It blocks both cyclooxygenases (COX-1 and COX-2) indiscriminately. The mechanism of action is due to the inhibition of the synthesis of prostaglandins – mediators of pain and inflammation.
Pharmacokinetics
The drug is used for topical application only. When applied to the skin, it is detectable in the epidermis and
dermis after 24 hours and is about 5% of the drug concentration when taken orally. Therapeutic concentration is reached
locally, there is no systemic absorption.
Indications
Muscle pain, back pain, arthritis, ligament damage, sprains, sports injuries and neuralgia.

Composition
Composition per 100 g of gel:
The active ingredient: ibuprofen – 5.0 g.
Auxiliary substances: isopropanol – 5.0 g; guentellose – 1.8 g; sodium hydroxide – 1.0 g; benzyl alcohol – 1.0 g; water – 86.2 g.
How to take, the dosage
For external use only.
The drug is administered to adults and children over 12 years. Apply 4-10 cm of the drug (equivalent to 50 – 125 mg of ibuprofen) to the skin over the affected area and rub gently until completely absorbed. Reapplication is possible after 4 hours, not more than 4 times within 24 hours.
If symptoms persist or worsen or if there is no improvement after 2 weeks of use, stop the treatment and consult a doctor. Wash hands thoroughly after use. The indicated dosage should not be exceeded.
Take at the lowest effective dose for the shortest possible course.
Interaction
Drug interaction of ibuprofen in gel form has not yet been described. However, even when used externally, ibuprofen may have a systemic effect, therefore, theoretically, the simultaneous use of the gel with other NSAIDs may lead to increased side effects.
Special Instructions
Wash hands thoroughly after application.
You should avoid getting the gel in the eyes and on the lips. Do not apply the gel to damaged skin, as well as to the area around the eyes and lips. Do not use in conjunction with an occlusive (airtight) medical dressing. Avoid excessive sunlight exposure to the treatment area.
Influence on the ability to drive and operate machinery
The use of Ibuprofen gel has no effect on activities requiring increased attention, coordination of movement, high speed mental and physical (including in vehicle drivers, car attendants) reactions.
Synopsis
Transparent or slightly opalescent colorless homogeneous gel with a characteristic odor.
Contraindications
– hypersensitivity to ibuprofen or other components of the drug, acetylsalicylic acid or other NSAIDs;
– complete or incomplete combination of bronchial asthma, recurrent polyposis of the nose and sinuses and intolerance to acetylsalicylic acid or other NSAIDs (including anamnesis);
– skin integrity disorders in the area where the drug is applied (including infected abrasions and wounds, oozing dermatosis, eczema);
– children under 12 years of age;
– III trimester pregnancy.
WARNING
Caution is exercised when the drug is used in conjunction with liver or kidney disease, gastrointestinal tract;
bronchial asthma, urticaria, rhinitis, nasal polyps, pregnancy and lactation.
Side effects
Hypersensitivity reactions: non-specific allergic reactions and anaphylactic reactions, respiratory reactions: asthma (including its exacerbation), bronchospasm, shortness of breath, Quincke’s edema, skin reactions in the application site of the gel: urticaria, rash, skin hyperemia, burning or tingling sensations. Gastrointestinal disorders, in case of accidental ingestion: abdominal pain, dyspepsia.
In long-term use, the development of systemic side effects of NSAIDs is possible. If side effects occur, stop taking the drug and consult a physician.
Overdose
Overdose phenomena in external use have not been established. If the drug was accidentally taken orally, gastric lavage (only within one hour after ingestion), activated charcoal, alkaline drinking, forced diuresis, symptomatic therapy are recommended.
Pregnancy use
The drug is prescribed with caution during pregnancy (I-II trimesters) and during breast-feeding. The drug is contraindicated in late pregnancy (III trimester).
