Artra stimulates the regeneration of cartilage tissue.

Glucosamine and chondroitin sulfate are involved in the synthesis of connective tissue, contributing to the prevention of cartilage destruction processes and stimulating tissue regeneration. Introduction of exogenous glucosamine increases the production of cartilage matrix and provides nonspecific protection against chemical damage of cartilage.

Glucosamine in the form of the sulfate salt is a precursor of hexosamine, and the sulfate anion is necessary for the synthesis of glycosaminoglycans. Other possible functions of glucosamine are the protection of damaged cartilage from metabolic destruction caused by NSAIDs and GCS, as well as its own moderate anti-inflammatory effect.

Chondroitin sulfate, whether absorbed in intact form or as individual components, serves as an additional substrate for the formation of a healthy cartilage matrix.

Stimulates the formation of hyaluronone, synthesis of proteoglycans and type II collagen, and also protects hyaluronone from enzymatic degradation (by inhibiting the activity of hyaluronidase) and from the damaging effects of free radicals; maintains the viscosity of synovial fluid, stimulates cartilage repair mechanisms and inhibits the activity of those enzymes that degrade cartilage (elastase, hyaluronidase).

In the treatment of osteoarthritis, it relieves the symptoms of the disease and reduces the need for NSAIDs.

Pregnancy

Not recommended for use during pregnancy and lactation.

Contraindications

Hypersensitivity, severe renal dysfunction.

With caution: bleeding or tendency to bleeding, bronchial asthma, diabetes mellitus.

Side Effects

Glucosamine: mild gastrointestinal dysfunction is possible (epigastric pain, flatulence, diarrhea, constipation), dizziness, allergic skin reactions.

Chondroitin: allergic reactions.

Interaction

Increases the absorption of tetracyclines, reduces the effect of semisynthetic penicillins and glucosamine. Artra is compatible with NSAIDs and GCS.

Overdose

Symptoms: cases of overdose are unknown.

Treatment: gastric lavage, symptomatic therapy.
