Acyclovir is active against Herpes simplex types 1 and 2, Varicella zoster virus, Epstein Barr virus and cytomegaloviruses. Thymidine kinase of virus-infected cells converts acyclovir into acyclovir mono-, di- and triphosphate through a series of activation reactions.
Indications
Infections of the skin and mucous membranes caused by the Herpes simplex virus types 1 and 2, genital herpes, herpes zoster, chickenpox.
Pharmacological effect
Acyclovir is active against Herpes simplex types 1 and 2, Varicella zoster virus, Epstein Barr virus and cytomegaloviruses. Thymidine kinase of virus-infected cells, through a series of sequential activio reactions, converts acyclovir into mono-, di- and triphosphate of acyclovir.
Special instructions
To achieve the maximum therapeutic effect, it is necessary to start using the drug as soon as possible after the onset of infection (at the first signs of the disease: burning, itching, tingling, feeling of tension and redness).
The cream is not recommended to be applied to the mucous membranes of the mouth and eyes, as severe local inflammation may develop. When treating genital herpes, you should avoid sexual intercourse or use condoms, since the use of acyclovir does not prevent transmission of the virus to partners.

Pregnancy
Adequate and controlled clinical studies of the safety of the drug during pregnancy have not been conducted. Use is indicated only in cases where the expected benefit to the mother outweighs the potential risk to the fetus.

Contraindications
Hypersensitivity to acyclovir and other components of the drug.

Side Effects
Hyperemia, dryness, peeling of the skin; burning, inflammation upon contact with mucous membranes. Allergic dermatitis may develop.
